The clock is up and ticking on the Persona 5 website! After being delayed for a 2016 release and no apparent news update, Atlus is now teasing us with a cryptic countdown. At the time of writing, it is at more than 300 hours. That's less than 2 weeks! What do you think will be announced at the end of this wait?

I wouldn't rule it out, although a simultaneous release isn't quite as likely. Sega's in charge now, more or less, and they've got a decent track record. Considering that most PS3+PS4 games are being ported to PC, and that Persona seems to be Atlus' big cash cow these days, it's certainly already been discussed internally.

While a Steam release would be awesome, it would almost certainly release months after the PS3 and PS4 versions, and a lot of people (like myself) can't and/or won't wait for another delay. Unless, of course, they end up saying they're releasing both it and SMTIV:A in late June, right when I'll be busy replaying the Zero Escape games for ZTD and after immersing myself in No Man's Sky. And god forbid that happens... that'd be one huge hit to my wallet... and my sleep.

Anywhoo, it's definitely a release date. They know we've waited a long time. A cryptic countdown for a trailer is something that worked last year, but it won't work now.

Atlus doesn't have the PC market. The consoles have always been a priority for them mainly because they are a japanese company with niche games.

Same exact thing people said in the past about Falcom, Platinum, Capcom, FromSoft, chunsoft and countless others.
Nobody has a market until they actually start releasing the games on said platform, of course.
Also, you can have your title be multiplatform and still have a priority for one system. One does not exclude the other.

So was the Tales fanbase, but Zestiria sold well enough that Berseria's still coming to PC. Up until recently Spike Chunsoft and their former companies had pretty much zero PC releases (and none outside Japan), but after the success of the Danganronpa games they're planning to do more in the future - Zero Escape 3 is already confirmed, at the very least.

Trails in the Sky didn't get a Steam release until years after the PSP version, but SC outsold the PSP version and the final chapter will only release on Steam, although to be fair the latter two are generally because the PSP has been dead for years, and it doesn't exactly look like the newer Ys games are getting PC versions.

The point is you can't really measure whether or not there's a PC fanbase until there are PC releases, but a lot of niche games are seeing more success on Steam than anywhere else.


EDIT: And as I mentioned earlier, SEGA is the owner of Atlus now. How much control they really have over Atlus' operations I have no idea, but they could still assign a team for a PC port if they wanted to. And it's not like they have an aversion to it - if I'd said even just two years ago that SEGA was going to do a PC port of Valkyria Chronicles, and a damn competent one at that, would you have believed me? There's not even an official localization for the last Valkyria Chronicles game.

A lot of people, including myself, would much rather play games on the PC. Heck, the only reason why I have any console is because the games I really want to play are on it. In fact, SMTIV was the first game I played on the 3DS. If it came out simultaneously for both PC and 3DS I might not have bought a 3DS for a while. Ultimately, it's rather silly to say a certain series', franchise's, or developer's fanbase is "on the consoles more than the PC" before they ever release games on the PC. Atlus so far has only ever published games on Steam (as far as I am aware), so of course the fanbase of their games is going to be on the console. If they started to bring SMT to PC, that may be a very different story.
