Cyberdimension Neptunia Online announced

Huh? Haven't seen this coming? Me neither.
Compile Heart has announced that a MMO(called Cyberdimension Neptunia Online) with the Neptunia characters is in development.
As for now we don't know on which platform it will be released but we'll hear more about it on April 14th in the next issue of Dengeki Playstation(Doesn't that scream PS4?).

I like the Neptunia games, but... god damn, they're grindy enough as single player RPGs. Making them into an MMO will make it even worse.

Did they announce that this is actually an MMO? It would make sense, with that title, but it's not specified in the source article you linked. I'm pretty sure people are just assuming it's one because of the name.

That´s right, is there any confirmation that it´s an MMO? Because this can be just another Neptunia, that will make fun of the MMO genre, hence the name.

You may be right. Reading more carefully it doesn't say anywhere on the source that is exactly a MMO (except on the OP), so we just assumed it.
All things considered this could be a Vert spin-off game, at least that is what fans are saying and seeing how Noire and Blanc got spin-off games I don't see why not.

Some of the theories also expect that this will be the Vert spin-off that is a parody of stuff like Sword Art Online and other games like that.

Anyone who doesn't think this'll be an MMO is a dullard - of course it will be. It will be a 24/7 always online factory of pretend waifus with shitty OC stories about how they're all Neptune's long-lost, bi-curious sister that little, perverted , immature, socially maladjusted, basement-dwelling weebs will jack off to for the next 10 years, grinding for hours just to get progressively more and more revealing gear. Filthy and disgusting face of online perversion and rampant, eternal virginity. A race to the bottom.

I can't wait. ;O;

Youuu~~ :angry:
You suck as a mod! >runs away
I'm not a mod, but I do have dreams about being one every now and then. Oh man, what a paradise it would be - a full 24 hour righteous purge followed by millenia of prosperity. It'd be amazing, everyone would love it, nothing better than a smell of banicide and lynching in the morning. ;O;

Anywho, it makes total sense for this to be an MMO because the franchise has all the trappings of an MMO already, including relentless grinding. The source material also lends to it being one - it's a meta video game about video games. A baby could turn this into a likable MMO experience, just use material from popular online games as the themes and mechanics and there you go - done and done.

Mechanically, I agree it would make sense, but do they really have the budget for a full scale MMO? As far as I know, they're pretty expensive to make and maintain.

It depends on the region. World-wide? Sure. On one continent or using a pre-existing infrastructure like PSN/XBL? You can cut costs significantly. There's a reason why MMO's are so popular in Korea - gamers there love'em and companies that make'em rake in money hand over fist.
