I'm using sysnand with the no-screen-init a9lh. After doing a hardmod all I need to do is make a simple sysnand backup now and then and it won't matter what happens. I finally have a system that boots clean and doesn't fail, plus it's simple and doesn't eat up extra space on my sd card. No more worrying about linked nands or screwing up my nnid etc.

Is the speed boost in using sysNAND really that noticeable?

Currently I'm on N3DS 9.2sys/10.6emuNAND with A9LH + AuReiNAND installed to a 128GB SanDisk Extreme mSD card. Coldbooting into emuNAND takes the same amount of time as coldbooting into sysNAND (with the updatedsysnand flag), which incidentally is 14 seconds.

Also, how do I set up Decrypt9 in conjunction with AuReiNAND? I downloaded the zip, took the .bin file and renamed it appropriately before putting it into /rei/. When I hold down L+R on boot, the 3DS just hangs on a black screen.

I'm considering switching to sysNAND-only in order to keep things simple on the system. The plan is to just have A9LH sysNAND CFW and HB launcher loader .cia for homebrews, avoiding other entry points unless when required. Freeing up space on the SD card or improving boot times aren't essential but are desirable.

If you maximize every second of every day than yes the speed boost using sysNAND is noticeable. In real world application it is like 5 ish seconds faster. Really not THAT noticeable.

Make sure you have AuReiNand 3.8.1. Rename the Decrypt9WIP.bin to arm9payload.bin and put in rei folder. Do you have screen init A9LH installed? You do not require screen init A9LH but if you do it should work by just powering while holding L+R. If you do not have screen init installed reference this thread:

You could also use @FIX94 armselect9 to do the same thing but by mapping a A9LH payload to one of the 3DS buttons. Reference this thread:

Nintendo cant fix emunand anymore. Its becoming quite clear that nintendo has lost control of its system. Arm9loaderhax was the final nail in the coffin the only way they can fix anything at this point is with new hardware. Sure they fixed browserhax and menuhax with 10.6 and 10.7 but cubic ninja and zelda oot still works then you could just downgrade and use all the good stuff again.

I guess nintendo will learn their lesson: No more QR code allowed in game rofl

You are leaving out a big part. Yes you can still exploit the console with cubic ninja/oot3d/smashhax but they can easily fix memchunkhax and no more downgrade from whatever FW they fix it from (without a workaround). They can also easily lock down the console if their devs had half a brain with a very easy fix from the very next FW if they chose to.

It is mind boggling how Nintendo has done practically nothing to block most exploits post 9.2 besides a message in the browser telling you to upgrade that can just be entirely bypassed on the n3ds because of the higher clock speed.

I answered Sysnand, even if on my main system (new 3DS) i use Emunand.
Had to compare with A9LHaxed 2DSes, and i gotta admit, i'm jealous.
But i'm too lazy to A9LHax mine just to get fast reliable boot and fast shutdown.
Edit : took the time to A9LHax my main system, worth it :)
Edit2 : installing DSiWare motivated me a lot

I switched to sysnand a few days ago. It's great! I have 9.2 emunand for other cfw (use it to boot gateway sysnand whenever I feel like having fun with cheats)

Sysnand because it makes sense... Think about it... The simple fact is, if you are running arm9 then you are now at the mercy of the firm0 and firm1 partitions. If these two system partitions corrupt while running sysnand or emunand....Brick!

Where in this explanation does emunand offer any more protection? You have already tampered with the integrity of firm0 and firm1 partitions, emunand can't save you now anymore than sysnand at this point! Plus a big benefit that seems to be overlooked here to arm9 + sysnand, increasing memory card life! Excessive writes to any mem card like this (treated as a nand) will significantly reduce life expectancy of your micro SD card life.

And one other benefit, you only have to maintain 1gig backups of ctrnand_sys as there is no point in keeping multiple backups of the other partitions because multiple restore to these partitions are unnecessary (again, preserving the life of the other partitions by avoiding unnecessary writes)

Lastly, I think, the safest thing to do with an arm9 system, either get rid of emunand all together or keep it but keep it running at a current version. That way you need not worry about accidental updates (for those who are super paranoid) that's what I did, and now if have a stealth mode I can toggle ;)

The FIRM protection in AuReiNand can't stop someone accidentally restoring a 10.6 emuNAND backup to sysNAND. I'm pretty sure in that case the user would be SOL. So yeah, it's safe-ish but not foolproof. As silly as it may sound it's actually not that hard to make that sort of mistake.
Well as a precaution you could dump firm1 and firm0 after its has been arm9'd and inject it into your arm9 less emunands to prevent this from ever happening.

I'm hoping to gather info on which you prefer and the pros/cons of each.

I prefer emunand currently as I feel it'll always be safer (and I'm to lazy to swap emu/sys :P)

So which do you prefer and think is better?

I am shocked lol I use sysnand
