Of the ported games mentioned in OP. I have enjoyed Quake 1 most. Then Heretic. And then Duke Nukem 3D, those ports are near perfect! But if/when Hexen II gets more stable and with c-stick/nub support, Im sure I will like Hexen II best :D
No love for Doom?

No love for Doom?

Well, I played Doom when I was a kid. I got scared the shit out of me and I dreamed nightmares. So I never played Doom after that.. Doom is very nice, of course. But compared to Quake, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D and Hexen II... Doom I & II feels a little bit old. But Ill probably play through both Doom I and Doom II on my N3DSXL ^^

Huh, Super Mario War is definitely the PSP game homebrew i used the most (and probably the only real reason why i had Time Machine installed for a long time on my PSP2000). If i can find sourcecodes for the PSP version maybe i could give it a try.
I would love you forever if this was possible.

I would love a QUAKE 2 port, QUAKE 1 is great atm but fragging hoards of strogg brings me back to my earlier days of youth. :D plus that soundtrack, kickass...

PC source, and the Wii port's source.

I couldn't find a source for the PSP version specifically, but the PSP version seemed to be at an older version (1.7 instead of 1.8 beta 2) anyways.

I wish I knew how to work Retroarch's DOSBOX. I haven't figured out how to bind any keys(so I can't play games) or get Windows 3.1 working(for funsies).

Or if there were a DOSBOX port with a keyboard on top of bindable buttons. I wanna play some Mechwarrior.

Include the Windows 95 emulator. That counts for sure, right?

Well, you're probably right. But my point was to gather the 1990s PC Games ports. And Windows 3.1/95/98 are Operating systems. But I can't change the topic title, unfortunately :p

Closed source = Impossible to port. Doesn't matter if it's commercial, shareware, freeware, 3dsware, wiiware, WarioWare or others :P
I hate to be the one to open the floodgates, but this is just patently wrong. Incredibly difficult to port, sure; incredibly unlikely to be ported, sure. But engine recreations exist for a number of games whose source has never been released. NXEngine for Cave Story, OpenJazz for Jazz Jackrabbit, OpenTTD for Transport Tycoon Deluxe, a whole host of games included in ScummVM are not working from source; hell, even Sonic the Hedgehog is well enough understood that Stealth ported it to Game Boy Advance.

I'm loathe to post this because I don't want people to get the impression that this is easy, these engine recreations have taken years and years of work, none of them has happened overnight. But with extreme knowledge and dedication, often by multiple people, all offering their time out of passion and the goodness of their hearts, it is absolutely possible to clone an engine and port it to other platforms without any source release for the original game. It's fair to say that if an engine recreation doesn't already exist for a game, it's vanishingly unlikely to appear on the (New) 3DS, because the system will be out of date by the time such a project got off the ground, but to say these things are impossible is to ignore the incredible efforts of hundreds of talented developers.

Yeah, you're right about this. But I think that Rinnegatamante meant that the Elders Scrolls games, just like you are saying, is by 99.9999 % not going to be ported to the 3DS :)

Open source game clones is a good example of what you are saying:

There is a difference between Port and Clone :D
