Hacking 10.6 emunand, can I access eshop to update games if I previously updated through cia files?

Title states the question. First of all is it safe for me to go to to eshop and download updates on 10.6 emunand? If so do I have to uninstall all previous updates I did through cia files?

Yes, you can update a game. But if you have any non-legit DLCs installed, they will automatically be deleted once you enter the e-Shop :/

Does this also count for non legit updates through cia?

So do people actually use eshop then? eshop access basically means you can't download DLC through cia files?

You can install updates through eshop. In my experience if you install an update via cia, you can't get any other updates from eshop, even if you delete the old one. This is because the cia writes a generic ticket which doesn't match. Deleting the update doesn't remove it.

Wait really? Not even uninstalling the cia though a cia manager?

What would you do then? You're just stuck installing through cia's?

Or backup your data and reformat your emunand. I had this issue with Netflix and triforce heroes before I realised what was going on. I suggest using the eshop first if possible. If there is another fix for it I'm not aware. I don't think we can edit the tickets.

I have a n3DS, and I used cia's to update back when the 9.6 update hit and n3DS couldn't update past 9.5. I had to rely on CIA files to update.

So then to avoid the hassle I may as well stick with CIA files? Since anytime a new firmware update roles around if the CFW's don't support it then everyone is basically locked out of eshop?

What? I'm talking strictly games and software. The eshop doesn't care where you got your fw. It gets signed to your system regardless.

Do you not need to be on the latest firmware released by Nintendo to access eshop? I'm saying that people would basically get locked out of eshop if Nintendo released a new firmware and the CFW options (rxtools, cakes, rei) didn't support it. Like 10.7

Oh I see. You want to use the eshop whenever it's available. You may never find a cia of the next update for whatever. So far just about every fw update has been compatable with all cfw's when the emunand was updated. I think there was a couple exceptions where it took, maybe, a day or two to update the cfw to load newer emunands. The only way I would use cia's to update anything is if I'm pirating a dlc or in the event that cfw is no longer being supported. Which should be a long while.

Ah I see. Back when 9.6 wasn't supported for n3DS it took months and I lost interest.

I suppose the dilemma is that there are a few games on which I would pirate DLC (Hyrule Warriors) while also there are games where I want to pay for DLC (Fire Emblem). So a game that was updated through eshop doesn't support pirated DLC?

Do you know if going to eshop in general deletes CIA update/DLC installs, or does it just delete them for the game you are trying to update?

You can pirate dlc on eshop updated titles. You may have to reinstall it after another update though.

Going into the eshop doesnt effect your software until you try to update or repair a pirated cia.

I actually went to the eShop on Thursday to repair my (pirated) Pokemon Yellow and it didn't delete any of my DLC and didn't have any errors while repairing. I found this very strange because I've had my DLC deleted by the eShop before.

What CIA manager do you use? I've read that the eshop problem is due to updated tickets, but since FBI removes tickets if you uninstall a CIA file you can effectively uninstall any previously installed updates.

Hmm, I use bbm. If fbi does in fact remove the ticket it might work.

Yep, pretty much. The broken ticket written to the ticket.db when you install content from a cia prevents you from being able to download any legit updates or DLC associated with that game's TitleID.

Even if you're one of the few people who legitimately use piracy to "try before you buy", you'll have to settle for a physical cart and no DLC.

It's my understanding that some people are looking into editing the title.db which would us to delete the bad tickets.

There won't be a repeat of what happened with the 9.6 encryption, we've got all the keys now. Nintendo can't prevent us from updating to the latest firmware anymore.

You lost interest pretty quickly then, eh?

We were only locked out of eShop for a short period of time. Then we figured out how to spoof our firmware so we could access eShop from 9.6

Eh, since when? This is news to me.

Maybe I did lose interest recently. Are you access to the eshop came that quickly for the n3DS as well?

As for FBI deleting tickets, it's just something I saw another member say. It could be entirely untrue.

So say I was to install pirated DLC on a game that I updated through the eshop. If I went to the eshop again to update it in the future the DLC I installed would be deleted? (When it comes to smash I am legitimately one of those "try it before you buy it" kind of people, except I want to try it on my 3DS before I buy it for my Wii U).

Okay after a little research I can see that it took much longer than I thought.

Gateway announced that they wouldn't be able to support 9.6 emuNAND on February 3rd 2015. It wasn't until July that new3DS owners were able to access eShop from their 9.5 emuNANDs.

Yeah, you should really ensure you verify the claims of one random before you start parroting them to others.

No harm done this time, but next time someone may brick their 3DS based on one of your unsubstantiated claims.

My apologies for any perceived hostility in my posts, it wasn't my intention.

There is another way to clean ticket.db: if you have a NAND dump made before installing the CIAs, you can extract ticket.db from it and inject it into the current one.
Not sure if you'd be able to reinstall your legit content from the eShop after that, though.
