Hi there. I have a 3DS in 4.5 version using rxTools with MSET. Well, the thing is I want to give my girlfriend this 3DS since a hace a N3DS in 9.2, but I don't want her to have problems and upgrade by accident the sysnand, so I want to give her this 3DS with menuhax set to open directly the emunand.

I don't wanna use safesysupdate since it's a litt dangerus and I don't want a brik, so that's why I thought this:
I open rxTools on sysnand, install cooking mama: bon apettite (since it ask to upgrade to 9.2) and upgrade. What do you think? Will this work, or it's just stupid?

If you have a way to update directly to 9.0-9.2 then do it. Then just use whatever entry point to install Menuhax. However, I'd install menuhax AFTER you setup your emunand if you can, since setting it up first will mess up the emunand

General process:
  1. Upgrade to 9.x
  2. Boot HBL
  3. Install FBI to nand
  4. Create emunand
  5. Format sysnand
  6. Boot HBL
  7. Install MenuHax to sysnand
  8. ...AuReiNand, rxTools, etc.
  9. Profit!

Well yes, I know all of that. What I am asking is if a digital copy of the game will ask me to upgrade, and if it can be dangerous in some way to it in rxmode in sysnand.

I can't speak to digital copies, i know a cart would. Honestly, since digital would update from the nintendo servers, I'd say probably risky, since it may pull latest update.

Do you have any carts that are 9.0-9.2?

No, I don't. That's why I think this up... Any secure way to do it, tho?

In almost the exact same boat here. If you have a Gateway you can grab an older version of their launcher before they patched out firmware check and update that way although I'm not sure if it'll still work with an updated Red Card. As for the digital copy, just make sure you take out/disable any network connections (or add dummy ones which is always a good idea on SysNAND) then you should be good to go.

I'd argue that using SafeSysUpdater is safer because there is a good chance that Cooking Mama will download the 10.6 update. I'd personally rather not update using any way that relies on using the Nintendo servers.

I understand your fears, but I upgraded my 4.1 O3DS to 9.2 a few weeks ago using regular sysupdater and it works without any issues.

I think a digital copy won't ask you to update, simply won't let you run the game (like when you try to run ironfall on 9.2 after a downgrade)

^I suspect that is correct. I doubt that digital games actually come with the system update bundled - that would increase their size unnecessarily when the system update could be downloaded regularly. The game probably requires 9.2 but that doesn't mean it comes with it. If it was that simple, we'd all own Cooking Mama already.

Just use safesysupdater.

There is not another system updater safer than that for the 4.5 version?
I believe there is no game that comes with 9.0-9.2. That's why people use sysupdater.

Follow the instructions and it will be fine. As I say, I updated using regular sysupdater with no issues from 4.1.

Problem with cart updates is the browser is not updated

So unless you have cubic ninja, you will have issues

I would use pasta mode and the. Use sysupdater to update to 9.2

Then setup auto boot to emuNAND unless you feel like getting OTP and going aureinand route and having it configured

Then your good to go

Just decide if you think she will be fine with auto boot or better with a9lh
She only want to play games, so autoboot is the best in this case. Well or at least as we're able to upgrade emunand (ofc no need to be worry in O3DS, but yet)

If that's what works use it

I'm not sure what you mean about being on a O3DS, now even N3DS can update firmware without issues

Even if your upgrade fails, chances are high you can just resume. I had a semi-brick on my N3DS downgrade and was able to resume and finish. Just make sure you double check your Ts and Is:P
