Hi

I'm trying to find a way to easily install a CFW like rxTool booting emunand without needing to buy a gateway card.

But each tutorial I found are mentionning the need to downgrade to 4.5, even with a 3DS in 9.2, and uses some not that easy hax (comparing to the browser hax which is the easiest entry point imo)

If i understand correcly, GW menu using GW Launcher.Dat can be booted using the hombrew Launcher and the GW homebrew, or directly with browser for o3DS. Also, the Homebrew Launcher is reachable using the browserhax on 9.2.

From that GW menu, simply format emunand and when it's done, let's go find a tutorial about how to install CFW when already having a working emunand on the SD card.

I don't understand why tutos are more complicated than that. Am i missing something important, or are the tutos simply not up to date ?

I don't exactly need to install this on my 3DS since i have a GW and 2 3DS alreary setted up.
But thanks for that, i saw this :
  • Download the latest Gateway package from their homepage.
  • Inside you will find a folder called \GW_ultra_*** (depends on version number) which has a launcher.dat inside.
    • Copy that launcher.dat to the root of your microSD.
  • Then extract the GW_3dsx file to your microSD (it's just like other homebrew apps, the \GW folder needs to go into \3ds).
  • Backup your microSD contents now, then start Homebrew Launcher and launch Gateway.
  • Format Emunand, make a NAND backup, restore your microSD contents and continue with unlinking.
which i haven't figured directly when i went for some info.

So, since it seems completly easier than anything else in the "setting up emunand", why is this marked only as alternative method ?

I don't know why. I used the emunand9 method and it worked flawlessly for me. I highly recommend following that tutorial if you want to get auto boot CFW working in your 3DS.

It's not easier. It's only an alternative if the other way makes problems somehow. Emunand9 is more convenient, allowing you to directly unmount sd and stuff. Basically it doesn't matter which way you use.

I just included the gateway method because some people seemed to have some problems with Emunand9 (which i can't understand since anything in that tutorial worked perfectly for me ever), so just that they have another way to format Emunand.
