First, please don't bash me, I don't know jackshit about hardware, so this is an honest question:

Is it possible to wire an sdcard in a way that I can mount it at the same time on a PC and a 3DS? If so, how is it done?

It would help me a lot with homebrew development and cia file transfers.

You mean like a HUB? IDK i've never seen anyone even try that.

Wouldnt the SD card manager on 3ds work for that? Or the FTP function in FBI?
That's not fast enough for what he wants

Yeah, those are way too slow. But speed isn't the issue really.
What I really want is a way to connect the SD card to my PC while it's connected to the 3DS aswell, without having to take it out.

If it also works while the 3DS is turned on it's a bonus.
We know that Homebrew launcher (and other homebrew for that matter) don't crash when we remove the SDCARD.

So, in my head, it could be possible to inject files while it's idle there. I really don't know to tell the truth.

It could also be dangerous, I think

well ofc it will be since you are sending power to the SD when its being read from so unless you have a way to disconnect the SD from being actually being connected physically to the 3DS console then once it gets read by the PC it gonna send voltage directly too it

This is what I want. And yeah, I didn't think it would work at the same time, but since I don't understand how those things work it couldn't hurt to ask (since google doesn't know either haha)
The switch at the top of the image would turn it on for a single of the two ends at each time.

I just wish to know if it's possible to wire a sd card.

Can I use another sd card that I don't use anymore as a "dummy" for the original sd card? How would I do that?

Also, I have plenty of SD to USB adapters, I just need to know how to wire everything.

----
Edit:

I think I could use one of those:

Coupled with one of those

And then a simple switch

I have all of those things here, I just don't know how to do it haha

What you are asking is physically possible of course. It would be a matter of electronically switching the connections from the SD socket on the 'hub' between the dummy card and the USB cable. I doubt such a device exists though.

This entirely defeats the purpose of have a Portable 3DS console

You are literally better off with the 10 seconds tops it takes to remove your SD card and insert it into your PC, especially since you have and OLD 3DS

I need this mostly to help with homebrew development and testing. File copying would just be a bonus.

Edit: I guess I would need another SD adapter to plug the original SD card. Hmm, maybe I could do this.

most homebrew is less that 2mb in size you could copy it in seconds with FTP-3DS. (FTP-3DS can transfer files at 1MBS+ )

also i dont know how this would help with hombrew development considering its purely for file copying

Why? It's not permanently installed in the console.
Because if you notice the diagram the Dummy Card is in the 3DS he has to be connected to a Hub via a cable to have what he wants, sure its not permant but if he wants to use his console more than the length of the cable he wil have to remove the card and insert it which also defeats the purpose

Alright, here is my situation:

I'm developing a homebrew using LPP3DS (LUA). When I change something on my computer, I need to exit the homebrew, launch FTBrony, connect and copy the files then boot the homebrew again.

With a hub like this, I could switch my SD to the PC, edit the file directly with Notepad++, save it and just change the switch to test it. I could even bind a key on lpp to do just that (reset).

The amount of time gained in my case would be tremendous.

or you can just have a copy of your file on your PC edit it while testing on your 3DS (which you should be doing)
Have your FTP client ready (most have a quickconnect button)

Exit The homebrew like you would anyhow load FTP which takes about the same time as you hitting your switch (and making sure SD mount on pc)

Copy the New File over via FTP and then just restart LTTP3DS

I am doing that. I would not need to exit the homebrew to test it with this. Just a softreboot would do. The saved time is totally worth it.

Umm you have to exit the homebrew to restart it, since its usually cached to ram once you load it the first time.

Even if that was the case, I could bind a button to System.launch3DSX() using Lua Player Plus and it would reload on the fly.

Trust me, from developing Gridlauncher I can verify that copying the 3dsx every time a change is made (sometimes hundreds of times a day) over FTP is arduous. I would love an easier way of just dropping the 3dsx somewhere, hitting a switch and the updated file appearing on the 3DS.

What about using a wi-fi sd card? I'd wager they transfer faster than the internal read/write options. Just using the hacked cia version of the SDCard utility vs. using it in System Settings is a massive speed improvement (for me, anyway).

Whoa, I didn't even know those existed! Will definitely take a look!
