I'm don't like blargsnes all that much. I can't find a way to change my controls, some roms don't work, and it always crashes/freezes. So I'd like to know if there's any good SNES emulators for o3ds. Or at least find a way to change blargsnes controls.

blargSnes is the only viable option on o3DS. As for the controls, you could probably just grab the source code, change them, then compile it.

blargSNES on the 1.3b unofficial CIA is pretty decent. Actually ran Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 with a few audio issues, that's it.

From RetroArch? Last I tried it, it barely handled any of the games I tried with sound. Maybe without sound it would be playable, but I'd rather wait until I get home to play my SNES games than play them without sound.
Retroarch Pocket snes is pretty good. Speed is excellent.

dont be fooled. on o3ds, blargsnes is the only option that plays games good. nothing retroarch has to offer performs even half as good. granted, retroarch gets all games to start, but what does that help you when its only 20fps or less?

sadly, blargsnes isn't being worked on anymore as far as i know though

What? I used snes9x/pocket snes just fine, a while ago. lol

Only heavy games were a bit slow.

I gave it a try with both ALttP and Super Metroid just a minute ago. It's not as bad as when I first tested it, but it still suffers hard from slowdowns. Those two are some of the less intensive games in my collection.

metroid works almost perfect on blarg, at least for the half hour i played around with it. while alttp only works on blarsnes 1.2 for some reason.

Yep, I know. I was just testing to make sure I wasn't wrong about PocketSnes. Super Metroid has been my main go-to on blargSnes when I'm in the mood for a SNES game and have free time between classes.

I haven't heard from StapleButter for a while, and I've been doing a few things here and there. Nothing major though, and the last stuff is under the "veryhard" branch.

I've only ever run Retroarch/homebrew on an N3DS but I've resurrected my formatted, original launch unit for testing purposes - and I find that only 3 cores (Picodrive, Gambatte and QuickNES) run to a certain standard. Which is pretty excellent as that's that's most of the major / personal nostalgia platforms covered. That's a total of 6 video game libraries (not counting the Mega CD as the best running game I tried only managed around 80% speed). The achievement is still of course pretty impressive.

But I never had much luck with Blargsnes
Not a single game I tried even booted on my brothers O3DS that I setup for him. More recently I tried a PocketSnes build and noticed that it had improved - framerates are generally better and the odd game definitely more playable but its still not quite there. I did however find a game that PocketSnes ran perfectly on the O3DS: Super R-Type!

So far, I've played Super Castlevania IV, Super Metroid (in progress), Gradius III, and Mega Man X just fine on blargSnes with my o3DS. BlargSnes doesn't have the greatest compatibility, but what it does play generally runs well. If o3DS is your only option, blargSnes isn't bad. If you have a N3DS or a PSP, there are far better options for you.

The main thing I like blargsnes for is to play my Super Metroid and Super Metroid hacks. Stuff like Super Zero Mission snes hack? I've beaten it multiple times on blargsnes. Great piece of homebrew, IMO.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
