Word of advice: Just stick with reinand. It has more features.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Reinand and cakes had it for weeks now.

I still don't see the advantages of the new rxtools? What can it do that reinand and cakes don't, apart from the rxtools menu? I mean really only emunand related, what's the difference except that reinand and cakes run ds/gba on n3ds and rxtools doesn't?
I don't see where reinand has more features than rxtools. It's rxtools to be more powerful ;)

I'm a pretty avid user of Reinand and even I'm a bit confused by your statement of more features. Reinand is as barebones as it gets (even more so than Cakes).

There's nothing to configure on it at all, which is the entire point of it. :P

While yes it does allow for GBA/DS stuff, it's not really something directly caused by it, that's just a side-effect of not tampering with/patching things more than necessary (N3DS doesn't need reboot patches for Smash/MH4U, and since official Reinand only runs on N3DS...).

Yeah RXtools works in the sense of Making a CFW an actual Custom Firmware.

Reinand and Cakes is built to just be custom in the sense of Signature Checks disabled etc

ofc the one with less features will be stable especially when you have to make it work on 2 console types

Still, I don't get the differences (besides the GBA stuff & xorpad?) between ReiNand & RxTools for a N3DS user.
From my understanding all the features of RxTools are not listed in the OP or on the github so a complete list somewhere would be great.

That's what I mean. Emunand wise rxtools is less powerful, as it doesn't support ds/gba.

or... simply browse through the menu and look at all of the options.

Very convenient for a newcomer who can't decide which CFW he should choose :D "you need to install it to see all the features available Kappa".
It's like buying something before knowing everything it does, but ok.

I'm currently on ReiNand but sure i'll try Rxtools now anyway, just pointing this out.

Yet. rxTools can do a lot more than reiNand can.
Please, let me know what rxtools can do for someone who uses decrypt9 to generate xorpads because rxtools blackscreens every second try, and when you can use pasta for sigchecks in sysnand?
I jus't don't see the big advantages.

Yet you'll probably see no difference, except that your GBA VC won't work anymore.

I've used rxTools to generate xorpads from time to time and never had an issue. Pasta Mode under Advanced inside rxTools patches signature checks and boots sysNand. rxTools boots more successfully than reiNand does. Boot failure is just the nature of these hacks. Even MenuHax isn't 100%, same for BrowserHax, even the MSET hack isn't 100%. I have used Gateway and even theirs isn't 100% boot rate.

I'm using ReiNAND MOD just for the sake of booting up DS and DSiWare from my emunand, but I do see some advantages in rxTools.

rxTools:
  • Region Free
  • rxTOols menu. This helps you generate xorpads easily and other stuff like that (dumping NAND is another one).
  • DS/DSiWare support for O3DS.
ReiNAND:
  • Straight up bootable emunand, the mod even has some code modification to avoid blackscreens so often.
  • DS/DSiWare support for both O3DS/N3DS (I think the mod does)
That's the only differences I can see right now between the two.
I will switch to rxTools again when DS/DSiWare on N3DS emunand is possible, since that's what best suits me.
Having only my DS flashcard inserted without having to switch carts or eve NANDs ii is the most convenient use for me.
I don't need Region Free since all my games are USA region as my console, and I already got my xorpads dumped a long time ago. :P

So at the end of the day, it's all a matter of preference and convenience for each user.

Rxtools is at the moment not regionfree on N3DS and also does not support DS/GBA.
I will only for the lulz install rxTools now and check it out.

I wake up to see this pile of flamewar about "Who's CFW is better".
Wow.
The only reason I prefer rxtools over cake/rei is because cake/rei is a b*tch to setup, i've tried making a N3ds emunand about 5 times with no success with reinand because rxtools was lacking in n3ds stuff when I was trying to do it. With reinand it's like "Do this, this, this, this, and this and then you have to do this, this, and this and there you finally have your emunand" and rxtools it's like this: "Gateway. Format Emunand. Stick rxtools folder in sd. Done."

So yeah

there you go

What.
It's exactly the opposite.

Reinand only needs to be extracted onto the sd. No Python, no firmware generating, no keyfiles to put in root. You wouldn't believe how many people were not able to find and place the firmware file correctly back when I had rxtools in my tutorial as the only option. What name does it have, where does it go, why does it not work, why does it blackscreen.

Granted, Cakes also needs some files put here and there, but for rxtools it's also not very convenient, at least not if you try to acquire the files yourself and not download a pre-packed folder someone else uploaded for you.

I just tried out rxtools, yeah, works. But DS and GBA don't work, meh. Also I found a new icon on my homescreen which Rei and Cakes don't show, it's plain black and has no name. No idea where that comes from or why only rx shows it.

I don't see any difference in CakesROP now and 2 days ago
why don't you look at the actual commit? Is shows exactly what was changed and only a couple of lines before and after for a reference point.

And don't forget about the many nand file dumping and injection options. If only you realized how easy it is now to manually do a system transfer, since you directly dump movable.sed, do the 30 second modification, and directly inject it into another system...

or (less relevant at the moment since we now have 10.5 emunand on N3ds) using safe mode to get rid of the update nag on sysnand, and being able to dump import.db and inject it into emunand to get rid of the update nag on emunand...

secure_info... for region changing

plenty of cool stuff!

umm... that's because rxTools doesn't automatically update the ROP when the main CakesRop tree gets updated. It did in the past, but then there was a time when certain changes broke rxTools until rxTools reverted which version it was using. What we're talking about is rxTools updating to the one you just compared it with, so of course it's the same! That was the whole point!

seriously though, there's no point using rxTools on n3DS right now. no region free and no GBA, rx menu freezes. stick to reinand for now.
