My desktop:
CPU: i7 3770
GPU: GTX 560
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 at maybe ~800 MHz (I don't remember, and it'll take a while until I can bring it to São Paulo from Fortaleza)
Storage: some 500 GB WD Blue HDD
OS it was running last time I used it: Winders 7. Only really used it for media after I got my old laptop, so I used Windows for SVP to get that smooth 60 fps anime/movies/series.
My old laptop was a Samsung Ativ Book 6.
I don't remember the specs to a decent degree of certainty, but I'm sure it had 8 GB of DDR3 RAM at also around 800 MHz, 1 TB HDD, and the damned Switchable Graphics going on with a Radeon HD8800M. It was the Brazilian model(better GPU but somewhat weaker CPU than the American one).
How it died(not really): I accidentally spilled orange soda on it one night and since then the keys have been ultra sticky. Samsung would only replace it for over 300 bucks, and took too long to get the pieces. Their technician invented a bullshit excuse about my OS giving him BSODs and that he tried but couldn't save any of the data on the system partition, so he installed Windows 8 over my previous riced-to-kawaii-levels 7 installation(may it rest in piece).
My current laptop is a Dell Inspiron 5548:
CPU: i7 5500U
GPU: damned Switchable Graphics, clumsily trying to coordinate the Intel HDG 5500 APU and an AMD Radeon R7 M275.
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 at 1333 MHz(I think)
Storage: a shitty self-pinned SSHD with 8 GB of flash memory and 1 TB of normal HDD.
OS: spent a few weeks on Debian Jessie, dist-upgraded to Stretch, then had to go back to Winders: the SSHD runs extremely hot on Linux for whatever reason, but behaves itself on Windows 8/8.1. I initially installed 7, but not only did the heat issues with the SSHD not stop, the touchpad drivers were common Synaptics, where two-finger scroll sucks big time. From there I installed Windows 8.1. Installed Manjaro on another partition, where it still sits, since the SSHD hates it too.
I'm planning on getting an SSD someday, and then the only issue I'll have will be with the discrete GPU getting warm. It doesn't sit under the right palm rest, though, so it won't be as much of a problem.
P.S.: Wangblowers 10 spies on you. Block the botnet updates from 7/8/8.1 or you might as well give Microsoft your soul.
