I'm sure there are programs that attempt to convert to 3d, but it would require lots of computational guesswork and would inevitably look terrible and be unpleasant to watch (eye strain from inaccurate 3d).

I had a TV that turned 2D stuff into 3D, and it worked pretty well but....... THE FUCKING EYES.......... THEY WERE HORRIFYING!

At best, you'd need to source the video from something like a 3d blu ray (which to the best of my knowledge isn't a thing for anime). Also outside of one attempt at a video player (via sunshell) there isn't a particularly good media player out there at the moment (and in the case of sunshell, you have to convert the video to a semi proprietary format, last i knew). EDIT: as per the video linked above, i stand corrected about 3d anime not being a thing...although I'm not certain if it exists outside of tech demo type stuff or not...

Any actual conversion of a video is a quality hit, also unless things have changed since i last looked at it, it uses some variation of .wav audio, so the output will likely be rather large as well.

mmm
kinda sucks
as most 1080p 3d rips run at 1.5gb
720p 3d rips run at 700mb

i guess 720p would do fine in the 3ds tho because of the size of the screen anyhow.

Actually, it is quite possible to make 2d movies into 3d to watch on 3ds. You just need a 3d movie converter (Imtoo works well) and make a "side-by-side" 3d video out of it. Then use the old 3ds video converter found here on gbatemp. After you get the video, pop it into your 3ds' camera folder and voila! I've done it with episodes of RWBY, the catch being you can't adjust the 3d effect like you can do to videos made by the 3ds camera.

You can convert a 2D video to the 3DS format so that you could view it on your 3DS. You could merge two pics(left and right) into one MPO, which too could be viewed on a 3DS in 3D. Google stpmkre for photos and stvmkre for videos.

You can't just invent a whole depth dimension to a plain scene. You will need an entire scene reconstruction and generate the stereographic pairs for clip generation. Not possible, frankly speaking.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
