Can someone please explain what the advantage of running native 10.4 is over native 10.2? I don't get it?

At this exact moment in time, nothing. All using 10.4's NATIVE_FIRM does it prevent you from using NTR. In the future, however, games will probably start using the 10.4 FIRM as the minimum kernel they want/need, so it's never a bad idea to use the most up to date one you can, as long as you're not sacrificing compatibility with useful things like NTR.

So how does one determine which FIRM they are on? I'm currently using the ReiNand 3.1 build and the firmware.bin from that was linked on the coldboot 10.4 reinand tutorial posted by @wurstpistole

You could run Free multi Patcher 0.6 beta 3 or newer to see what the kernel version says, or more simply, if you're using the latest official Reinand (and not Aurora's build), you're on FIRM 10.2. If you're on Aurora's build, then you're on 10.4 FIRM.

If you go the FMP route, 2.50-9 is the 10.2 FIRM, and 2.50-11 is the 10.4 FIRM.

Guess I'm on an older version of FMP, it doesn't show any system info. I'm using the build from this link, though https://github.com/Reisyukaku/ReiNand/releases
BootNTR loads and says it works, but I can't seem to get Debugger to do anything useful. Anytime I try to dump or write, it starts giving errors or dropping connection. Guess I'll grab a few plg files and see if they work.

I'm on official 3.1 and it's 10.4 fw not 10.2 making this useless until updated for latest emunand.

FIRM, not emuNAND version. 3.1 doesn't use 10.4 FIRM. FIRM is the 3DS kernel (to put it simply).
well, to put it simpler, I used FMP and I'm on 3.1 and it's firm 10.4. If you update your emunand to 10.4, you have 10.4 firm. That's official release as well bro.

So you're saying you have 2.50-11, even though official Reinand 3.1 (and not Aurora's) uses 2.50-9? Keep in mind that updating emuNAND does not affect firmware.bin, and that emuNAND doesn't use the NATIVE_FIRM stored in your NAND dump.

Cell9 already said on github....
So basically, atm if you want to use NTR, don't use 10.4 Native Firm.

So, using the latest firm as a precaution apparently isn't a good option here. Eh. Oh well.

That doesn't work that way. Reinand is using 10.2 firm right now. Just because you are on 10.4, that doesn't mean you are using the 10.4 firm.

Updated "laziness version" of BootNTR (all credits goes to cell9): https://goo.gl/TEjnXA

Thanks for the update. However, there's a slight problem. It works great on the N3DS, but says it doesn't recognize the home menu and does a memory dump on the O3DS. Now, I know better than to expect it to work in GW or that modified ReiNAND, but clearly something's wrong when it doesn't work in Cakes. The highest firm Cakes supports is still 9.6 after all (unless he released a new version today or something). Shadowtrance's build works fine on both. I hope you figure out what's causing this. Your previous builds all worked great.

In case it interests anyone, I updated my screenshot merge tool to work with NTR (because 100pcrack from GitHub suggested it). The README.md in my repo should explain how to use it. It requires Java.

Note: The same release will still work with hax 2.5 screenshots, so if you want to do a "bulk merge" you can put both types of screenshots in one input folder.

(If you find this tool useful (or not), let me know!)

NTR CFW can't run without Pasta CFW, right?
Can I play ssb4 with NTR CFW on old3ds(9.2)? I want to use cheats on ssb4...
