Hacking ninjhax 2.5 red screen problem

Hello,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I've got a N3DS10.1.0-27U which has never been exploited. I just got my sky3ds+ card today. I've done the following for this 3DS:

SD card: SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB

- Formatted SD card with SD Formatter 4.0
- Copied gamelist.bin onto root of SD card
- Copied Cubic Ninja onto the root of the SD card
- Copied boot.3dsx to the root of the SD card (along with the starter pack files for Homebrew Launcher)
- Brought up correct QR code on ninjhax 2.5 beta site for my N3DS version
- Confirmed that my wifi is on and connected to the internet
- Loaded up Cubic Ninja and snapped pic of QR code
- Exploit launches, I go ahead and run it
- When it's supposed to boot into Homebrew launcher, it just red screens on me and nothing happens

I've tried both ninjhax and browserhax trying to load in, but no luck. Is there something I might be doing wrong, or another way to get into the Homebrew Launcher?

- Check if your starter kit is the latest, if no, delete it and download the latest & replace boot.3dsx, if yes, ignore this step
- Upgrade to 10.3.0-28U
- Delete Cubic Ninja save and re-scan the 10.3 QR
- Re-enter HBL

Starter kit is the latest. I just updated to 10.3.0-28U, deleted my Cubic Ninja save and re-scanned with the new QR code, but unfortunately the red screen persists.

Red screen = missing/broken boot.3dsx . Check that you have boot.3dsx on the root of SD (not inside any folder

Yep - I saw that on the ninjhax FAQ and confirmed that my boot.3dsx is on the root of my sd card. I've also re-downloaded and re-copied the file just in case it might have become corrupt. I've also tried a different SD card, but no luck.

As you only mentioned one SD card in your post and SKY3DS+ doesn't require a disk writer, I doubt whether you copied the boot.3dsx and starter kit to your Flashcard's SD or 3DS's Sd. There should not be a red screen as long as some boot.3dsx exists on the root of 3DS's SD card.

Perhaps try a different SD card, or make sure the SD card is formatted as FAT32?

If you don't have a /Nintendo 3DS/ folder on root, the 3DS probably isn't reading the card at all.

Well, even there are many Chinese noobs who asked much more stupid questions in baidu tieba etc., they hadn't made such a mistake that missing SD/MicroSD card on the console like what you said at all.....
I hope TC doesn't, either.

I can assure you I am competent enough to copy a file to my SD card. I formatted the card with SD formatter - I did not use a disk writer to write the files to my SD card. The boot.3dsx definitely exists on the root of my card.

Yep - I have tried a different SD card (as posted earlier) and the format of both SD cards is FAT32. Based on ninjhax FAQ, you have the option to put only the boot file on the SD card by itself, or by using the Homebrew starter pack (which includes those folders). I've tried both ways to no avail.

I guess I am going to need to prove that I'm not making common user mistakes with screenshots. I can post those when I'm home in a few minutes.

My next few questions: Do you have Wifi Enabled for the 3DS? Do you have tubehax dns set up? Also, do you have the web browser, and does it function properly?

Wifi is enabled on the 3DS and is connected to the internet with DNS set to auto.

I do have the web browser, and it functions correctly. I did previously try using browserhax by accessing a special URL (which did also initiate the ninjhax exploit), but I also got the red screen.

Well, I mentioned disk writter only because the old sky3ds utilized a specific file system for their SD card which requires users to use such a tool to copy games. This also prevents people from copying any file they want to the SD card. The new card doesn't rely on that to work, meaning that people can directly access their SD card and copy any file to it. I didn't doubt whether you copied it to SD card or not, I only wanted to rule out the possibility that you copied those files to the wrong destination.

SD card: SanDisk Extreme Pro 16GB

The above is the SD card I am primarily trying to get functioning. It's 16GB. The other SD card I tried using was 8GB. Both of them are SanDisk (one is just a SanDisk, the other is a SanDisk Extreme Pro).

I am not sure where /Nintendo 3DS/ folder is coming from, but I'll assume you were referring to /3ds on the root of my SD card. I have removed the folder and tried booting into ninjhax and this folder has never generated. I've also left it there with no results. I didn't doubt he's missing the SD card on console, I doubted whether he copied those files to the root of 3DS's SD card.

One thing that I am now noticing this morning is that when the red screen comes up on my 3DS, I take the SD card out of my Sky3DS+, put it back into my SD card reader on my computer and notice that the boot.3dsx is renamed to boot.3dsx.bad. It wasn't named .bad previously.

I'm now sure you didn't do it right. So you're copying all the files to the SD card which goes into your SKY3DS?

Correct. I am copying all required files onto the SD card, and then putting that SD card into my Sky3DS+.

That's where you did it wrong. Those files should be copied to the SD card which goes into your 3ds.
