Homebrew NFC reader O3DS?

I'm not a cheapskate that doesn't wanna go to gamestop and buy a NFC reader for 19 bucks.
I just thought this was a good idea. An file that lets you Register your Amiibo via O3ds screen.
And why not? the N3ds gets the feature built in. its just like scanning a QR or bar code right?
Unless the N3ds has some feature in the bottom screen to read the codes.

I just think this would be handy. You wouldn't lose it, or have to make the trip to buy something that could have easily been built into the 3ds.


Problems I can see:

-Scanning Amiibo in-game

-probably not knowing how amiibo coding works

No, I was saying that it likely registers like one. Like...it scanning a specific shape, pattern, or code.
But instead of focusing a camera on it, you out it on the bottom screen.

You would have to rewrite the OS to read from QR camera intead of NFC, you would have to create codes per character, and would have to patch the games that you want to use them in too.... In short.

Go pay $20

That thing will probably worth heaps in 20 years time.

nope, it isn't like that. it's NearFieldCommunication, NFC

The screen has nothing to do with NFC. NFC is a wireless chip in both devices that communicate using electromagnetism. You can't put the n3DS code on the o3DS becase it lacks an NFC chip under the screen.

NFC doesn't need a screen. It a wireless technology, used in stuff like Amiibo, keycards, cellphone, buss pass, etc. for identification purpose. A NFC reader uses an antenna to speak to a NFC tag, which also has an antenna. They need to be very close because the antenna also provide wireless current to the tag. This is also why it is called NFC, for Near Field Communication.

Most recent phone already have an NFC reader. You can actually dump a copy of an Amiibo with your phone into a file for you to check on your PC if your phone has NFC capability.

In terms of using an Android phone, I know some newer phones have NFC antennas and IR transmitters in them, so if someone can reverse engineer the IR transmitter in the Amiibo Dongle you could probably make some sort of app that emulates it

IR has nothing to do with Amiibo. IR is for InfraRed, which use light to communicate.

The best way to do it would be to modify the driver responsible for the external NFC reader for the 3DS. Then, get this driver to load a .bin from the SD storage instead of reading the data from the NFC reader.

I can't look at the blueprints to the N3ds and determine what causes Amiibo functionality. It was a question, and I get the answer is "No". I thought it was screen scanned, since you place the Amiibo on the bottom screen. (N3ds)
