So i have rxtools installed in my recently downgraded n3ds xl with emunand version 9.5.

I have seen that some people had problems in the past in which the emunand gets bricked.

1) What are the things that i must avoid in order not to brick my emunand?
2) Can it get bricked with the normal use?
3) What happens if i install a game or a game update that needs a fw > 9.5? Will that brick my console or update the emunand?

Thank you for your answers!

1. Don't install anything odd that might look.."unofficial". If you know what I mean.

2. No. If you just are loading CIA's and playing games like a normal person, it'd never get bricked. (No cases have been reported of this, only very special cases in which the user did something weird while downgrading, upgrading, etc).

3. Neither, the game just won't work/load. Perfect example: IronFall. If you tried loading Ironfall on emunand, and if your Emunand is <9.5, it will go into a endless loading screen.

And of course, like below, you can always bring back your emunand by using tools, like EmuNAND9.

But, make sure this is the first thing you do, or you WILL get screwed over.

Download EmuNAND9 and make a backup of your emunand. If anything ever screws up your emunand, you can restore.

1) Updating emuNAND past 9.5 (for now), installing/deleting system titles using CIA installers (especially avoid FBI installer unless you know what you are doing)
2) No (at least haven't for me since I bought and set up emuNAND in april last year and still working fine).
3) Never accept any cart updates at all (if sig patches not done right it may ask). Doing so could risk you updating your sysNAND at worst case.

In short, if you are at emuNAND 9.5 right now all you need to do is make a emuNAND backup to PC, then set up everything and make another emuNAND backup to PC. In the event you try to do something crazy you can revert the changes by simply writing back your emuNAND to console SD card.

Also, it goes without saying that you should have sysNAND backup on your PC at multiple locations.

What do you mean by unofficial?

Like, if somebody you've never heard of tells you, "Hey, I just made this cool game, it's kind of like super breakout. It's called 3D Brick Master. Here's a precompiled version of it attached to my post. If it says "DEADCAFE" on the screen, then it's time to reboot your system into fun mode!".

If that happens, don't install that.

...I wish I could make a homebrew that would brick your 3DS. First, it'd start off as a simple breaking blocks with..balls game. But, if you lose or win it will brick your 3DS. Just like lose/lose.
