The WiiWare version IS the DS version, there's no problems with it. And you insist on running DS and GBA you'll have to wait for DS and you can use VBAGX on the vWii to play GBA games.

Is there a safe way to update a game? Super Mario Maker for example. The new system update happens immediately (or tries to), every time I turn the console on.

Can you let the update fail, remove tubehax, update mario maker, turn wii u off, unplug network cable, reapply tubehax and be good to go? (Sorry for that run on lol)

Both of you are out of luck. You will need to wait for a 5.5.0 exploit to run wup installer (above).

Be patient, now that Nintendo patched a bunch of exploits on the latest browser, it may come sooner than before.

I hate the wii mote I want to use the Wii u game pad and I want to use the touch screen features of the DS game if DS injection is possible with this.

It is risky, the console will probably try to update its firmware before it lets you install the game update.
It could even do that silently while fooling you to believe it is installing just the game update.

I just noticed that the system retries to download a failed update after you leave settings, so removing tubehax wouldnt work. Glad I was smart about this... Phew.

I saw same thing when I used to use Tubehax, you were safe but apparently your console still updated to 5.5.1?
I am currently using no internet connection settings as I prefer to ensure i'm 100% safe
