Tutorial Simple Guide to Downgrading your 3DS

Thanks for this. I was able to downgrade to 9.2-20u using menuhax. Browserhax didn't work for me after a lot of tries, so if some of you are encountering some trouble, try using a different entry point.

Also, just to confirm, has anyone been able to use this to downgrade to 4.5-ish?

If you don't see anything else on screen after 30 seconds you are safe to restart and try again, it's when it locks after it starts reading the cia's that you have problems.

Should start showing output in less than 30 seconds. After that its most likely frozen. Try pressing "B", if nothing happens, you need to try again.

Then if say i use the older method using the gateway launcher, would that be better? Is it okay to assume that my system is now a 9.2-20u and the previous downgrade would not interfere?

On that question I really wouldn't have a clue, not something I've looked into at all as I don't need the 3ds for GBA etc. Anyone?

I'm still stuck on the (A) Update (Y) downgrade screen.... is there suppose to be another screen? when you click y

Ironhax wouldn't start, who knows why, last time I booted the 3ds it worked
Browserhax started sysupdate, but after I pressed y it just froze, I let it sit for 20mins and then rebooted, which is what happened to you
Menuhax started sysupdate, I pressed y and then a bunch of filenames ending with .cia were showed as being installed, try using that

No you won't, downgrading doesn't clear any data stored on your NAND [unsure about badges they are linked to your NNID, but were introduced in 9.3 so possibly]. Be aware though that if you go the CFW route, you will be required to do a full system format to unlink your sys and emunand. Anything you want to back up [that you can] needs to be done before that.

In case of a brick there really isn't anything else you can do, triple check that your cia pack is the right FW, and for the right type of 3ds [o3ds or n3ds], and that you are using the latest version of SysUpdater, then go for it if you think it's worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply! I use badges on another 3DS (another NNID), so that's not a problem I feel a little bit more secure now.
About CFW: If I need to backup, format, do the CFW things and finally restore my backup, after the whole process will I have all my 3DS stuff back?

Sorry but I really don't know, never attempted to backup badges or the activity log or any of that stuff, I really only cared about the saves. Basically your SD card only stores games and the like, saves and data pertaining to programs [streetpass etc] are all stored on your NAND and so I would assume anything you can't backup is gone. I could however be wrong, anyone else who did check?

You don't absolutely need to unlink your NAND's, but if you don't you can't update emunand for example, as it will update sysnand too.

i've already tried 3 times getting softbricks, and i read formatting 3DS and SD card makes success rate 100% but i don't want to have a hardbrick just because sysUpdater randomly crashed

I keep getting this error, anyone know what's causing it? I'm using the latest sysUpdater app linked in OP, getting the same error with 9.0 and 9.2. I checked the md5 of the zip and it's correct.

If I use svdt to backup my save games, factory reset my 3DS, and then downgrade to 9.2, will I be able to recover all of my eShop purchases along with their save data after the downgrade is finished? (Can I re-download straight from the eShop? Or do I need to back up the games somehow as well?)

You can re-link your NNID [via emunand if you went for CFW] and re-download them if worst comes to worst yes.

I'm new here and new to everything about hacking, I've never installed any hacks on my New 3DS XL (USA) never, never used any exploits before, so I got some questions.

1: Does that mean that the update and recovery problems regarding that infamous tubehax does not apply to me right?. This would be the first time I'm doing anything on my New 3DS.

2: What is KTM? I've read that term before. But I don't know what it means.

3: Right now my New 3DS version is 10.3.0-28U. This is the same as 10.3 people talk about right?. I should stay there no matter what and wait for a stable downgrader or a custom firmware for my version right?. I'm sorry if make stupid questions, I'm new on everything here.

4: I only got one SD card and I got games on it so I'm not keen on formatting it becuase I loose my saves (So goodbye MH4U G rank status...). I don't have to format it in other to downgrade or hack my New 3DS XL right?.

Just gonna say that, once I formatted system memory and my sd card, I was able to downgrade first try.
You can back up your sd card if you have an sd card slot on your computer(or laptop).

Have you tried resetting your modem/router etc? I know my connection wigs out occasionally for no apparent reason. Other than restarting hardware I don't really have any ideas, I haven't heard of anyone else with the same issue so far so I would assume it's your connection.
