I followed a tutorial that showed me how to install emunand and rxtools. Both of these setups were done by launching the 3ds browser. If I want to boot into either I must always go through the browser to do so. I have been wanting to use homebrew but cannot seem to get it to work. I have copied the necessary files to my sd card as shown in my attachments to this thread. I run sysnand 7.2 and emunand 10.3.

I would simply like to use tools that allow me to extract save data and edit and also use tools like Pkhex++. Whenever I boot my 3ds it loads to the original 3ds menu screen. I've seen countless youtube videos where everyones loads into some custom homebrew version. What have I done wrong? I have been to rxtools and gateway 3.5.1 and I see no options anywhere regarding installing homebrew or even any sign of any apps.

Thank you for any help

Search on google Savedatafiler cia download it and install it from DevMenu or FBI

Okay I get that savedatafiler is some sort of homebrew app. I have attempted to get FBI to work before but I'm not figuring it out. You extract the files to your sd card. I can do that. Where do you go from there? I boot the 3ds expecting something to pop up. Nothing does. I go into rxtools thinking there will be a new option to choose. Nop. I check gateway 3.5.1 and nothing there either. I must be missing something really basic because I see everyone using homebrew but me.

It appears you require a flashcart to instal devmenu and FBI confuses me.

How did you installed the homebrew launcher cia on the root of your SD?
you need to inject FBI with Rxtools no flashcard needed search in the forums a guide to inject it i think you can find that on the Rxtools guide

I just figured out the problem. I use the browser to initiate rxtools but when I press L as the lower screen glitches it doesn't take me to the 'advanced rxtools options'. Is this really the reason I have been unsuccessful all this time? Why is this happening?

Why don't you install menuhax first to get rid of the browser and have homebrew cold booting?

Because this whole time I didn't know how. Now I realize that all this homebrew installing well at least in my case is done through rxtools advanced options. Problem is when the lower screen glitches and I press L it just take me to RXTOOLS standard menu.

If I want to start again can I just format my SD card without any consequences? Is there some sort of procedure I must follow to remove emunand and rxtools or will a simple formatting suffice?

If your format your microsd and system, you'll just be back to 7.2 stock system and can start over.

I don't know which entry points you have on a 7.2 system. But once you get to homebrew launcher you can install menuhax to cold boot the homebrew launcher and from there go to formatting Emunand, setting rxtools up and so on. I don't see why you need to enter rxtools advanced options in the first place. There's nothing special to see.

Homebrew "installing" is done by copying 3dsx files to the 3ds folder on your microsd and cia files will be installed with fbi in your emunand. That's got nothing to do with rxtools advanced options or whatever that is.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
