The next FW will most likely be a patch attempt. Why would they do that before the exploit they're targeting is released?
They tried and failed with that approach on 3DS

I belive Nintendo is going to release a new firmware because of the changes of the new account system.
And i also belive they have a deadline to do so, if hykem delays it, even for a week, less time for nintendo to try to patch it.

What exactly does the IOSU exploit do that obsoletes the kernel exploit?

PPC kernel just controls the PowerPC, the ARM kernel controls hardware and the entire system since it's the security processor.

He did? I just remember him mentioning obfuscation to try to slow them down.

Keep in mind that releasing the exploit "as-is" is pointless, so it will have to be ported first and most likely obfuscated so it will take a little longer to patch.

I read as in obfuscation to make it harder to patch

confirmed New Years gift either on Dec3 1st or Jan 1st.

If a little later than that, I'm fine with waiting. But I'm not sure if my 5.5.0 friends can even wait when they're dependent on online games like Smash and Splatoon, which release updates every now and then. Once 5.6.0 comes out, it's gonna get REAL tight for them since they can't even update games anymore. That's when I'll be like HYKEM please hurry D:

Until then on my end, Loadiine + Staying offline with my wifi SD card. I'm all set until IOSU.
Yes I know that when IOSU comes out, nothing will be available besides that one thing Hykem might release with it. With this Wifi SD card keeping me offline, I'm set for however long it takes with no worries whatsoever.

So, my intention to release something exactly on Christmas is clearly not going to happen. I already knew it would be quite a stretch to get all the relevant stuff done by tomorrow, whence the warning that it was merely an intention.
Still, I'm steadily working on all that's necessary for a proper release and I will be spending the first month of the next year doing maintenance and giving support related to the exploit.
By the way, this doesn't mean it won't happen at all, I'm just giving an heads up so no one gets their hopes high for a Christmas eve release. Next week or so is a more plausible release date.

As long as it's released before the NX it's OK with me.

Is there a way to release firmware spoofing first in case Nintendo may release a new firmware as Christmas gift with some kind of nagging code (like the one on 3DS browser) and the kids opened their new Wii U on XMas then update to newer firmware? Or spoofing is an integrated part of the IOSU exploit?

Just remember this exploit would mean EMUNAND, so that wouldn't be a problem anyways. Still would still be nice to be on a good SYSNAND firmware rather those handicapped one.

Thank you so very, very, very much for A)your hard work and B) for telling us that it won't be done before Christmas, my mom got SMM for my brother but he/we won't be able to go online with it unless I update MY Wii U, so she'd probably force me to update anyway which then would kill several hours during Christmas day because Ninty's servers suck at Christmastime. Which also delays me playing Xenoblade X.

BTW could someone who maybe knows more about Hykem's exploit say if 5.5 is completely screwed or if it will just take another day/week/month/half year to port it?
