I think a 3D video player would be an awesome use of homebrew. I mean, we can watch any video we want on a cellphone, with a better resolution. Now 3D video is something only few of us have access.

What are the chances of 3D? I don't know what 3D formats are around, but maybe autodetect if the width=800 for sbs or something?

I just released my proof of concept video player on https://github.com/Lectem/3Damnesic.
It is really nothing more than a proof of concept for now, since you can only play MPEG4 and H264 videos, and there's no sound.
The video will play as fast as it can, please don't complain about it being too slow/fast.

Only as .3dsx and .elf though.
Why doesn't it ***** ?
Probably because its only a proof of concept or that you used a wrong codec/muxer. Please also have a look to the README.
Why is the code so crappy and ugly ?
Because it's mainly an experiment, and that I didn't take the time to clean it up, sorry.
When will it get sound ?
When I will find the motivation to implement it, or if someone helps with it

I've been under a lot of workload those past months, and the small time I had to spend for the 3ds scene and this project ended up in debugging the new ndsp sound module of ctrulib.
Lately I've been working on network stuff for ctrulib, as I wanted to give video streaming a try.
If anybody feels like contributing or helping in the project, you can just pm me, I'll gladly answer any question.
Since ctrulib got the great-refactor, there are quite a few changes to do to the code, and I have it somewhere on my PC, I'll try to update the repo when I find the time and will to clean up the code.

Just cloned the repo & tried to compile it, but it spat out an error on movie.h. http://pastebin.com/HxqHTNZg
Edit: just tried to omit the line causing the error, and a whole bunch of errors came up, I'm going to take it, this code will need some work before it'll compile with the current ctrulib
Second edit: Looking through some code it definitely will need some fixing, changing depreciated gpu commands and such

Most of the problems can be fixed easily, Y2R_* was renamed to Y2RU_*, and yeah gpu functions are now deprecated, though still working. See https://github.com/smealum/ctrulib/blob/master/Changelog.md .
