N3DS running Homemenuhax, ctr manager, hbl and rxTools

My nand's are completely unlinked

I never had this problem before until today, this is what happened

I upgraded from an old version of rxTools (10/02) to the very latest posted by @Dean_

rxTools all upgraded fine and even Devmode / Pastamode now working

However when i entered emuNAND i was confronted with 2 gifts that needed unwrapping (neither had descriptions)

I unwrapped both gifts and now have 2 black squares, with no descriptions, if i try to load them i just get the Nintendo screen frozen

I have a lot of other installed content on the machine already and none of it is affected

It is just these 2 black boxes which i cannot remove

I have searched the forums and found others who have had them, some have never resolved the problem, others had to reformat the emuNAND

I am hoping somebody can please provide me with a solution to this

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

PROBLEM SOLVED!! Ok, after having much discussion here and lots of good advice from many members including @wormdood @Pingouin7 @MaNiAlJoWo @subcon959 @Queno138 @jaksy a solution to my problem of the unwrapped gift's producing black boxes has been resolved

I installed BBM (normally use only Devmenu) and found multiple instances of Devmenu and SysUpdater either installed or wrongly installed, so after removing them with BBM and rebooting the system they were gone!!

As simple as that, thanks for all those who helped :)

Any suggestions please folks ?

from what I understand, there are two games that you have the data on your SD card, but .cia not installed in your nand.

(basically, you probably reverted your emunand once or twice, but kept the game on the SD card,
hence the game doesnt exist in your name, but exist on your SD card)

either delete the folders from your SD card (which isn't easy to locate),
or reinstall the .cia the game belongs to.

For me I was able to hide the corrupted data icons by either running cakecfw (could be a fluke or it's possible cake deliberately blocks these icons), or prementantly by uninstalling the problem corrupted titles from my sysnand - nand location.
It was easy to tell what the corrupted titles were as I remembered one was a gba game so I looked up it's code, and one was FBI so it had an obvious code like CTR-P-CFBI.

Uninstalling the cias I accidentally installed to my sysnand nand cleared up the corrupted titles I had appearing in sysnand.
I believe if you have unlinked nands you'd have to uninstall the corrupted title in question off the nand corresponding to the nand it was installed on.

I had some of these appear on both my o3ds's when running RXTools for the first time, a 4.5 machine, and a 6.1 machine. I updated them both using a modified 9.2 update (no mset update and such) and the squares vanished. Neither has a "emuNAND".

Ok, an update, but still strange behaviour

So i formatted a microSD card, placed on just rxTools folder (with all fw etc...) and went for a fresh install

All went well, but the 2 black boxes still remain ????

So do i need to do a full system format and start fresh ?

It sounds like you installed a cia to your sysnand's nand location. Basically where your 3ds holds it's system files, so the corrupted icons wouldn't dissappear despite formatting your sd/emunand.

In my previous post I mentioned how I figured out what my accidentally installed files were and how I removed them. You could CAREFULLY remove the corrupted icons in question if you know what they are.

Keyword is careful though, as you could brick your 3ds if you delete the wrong thing from nand.

The only thing is , there are no black boxes in my sysnand and only in my emunand

I have never installed anything to sysnand ?

Hum, I can't explain why they wouldn't appear in sysnand but would appear in emunand and persist through a reinstallation of emunand.
Maybe someone else has a clue on this?

As far as not installing anything to your sysnand nand, a lot of guides tell you to install FBI to sysnand prior to unlinking nands.
It's easily possible to misinterpret this and accidentally install it to your linked nands from emunand causing corrupted icons(this is what happened to me) instead of properly installing fbi to the sd location in sysnand/devmode.

I hear what your saying and understand, my method was to inject fbi into H&S using Decrypt9 to emuNAND, it hasnt changed or altered my sysnand at all

yes tried that but nothing is there :(

I think my best course of action is a totally fresh install, put machine back to factory settings and start fresh
Well, best of luck!

If it persists through a factory reset it must be corrupted data on your nand, and the icons appearing corrupted and black would be because it's unsigned code installed on a noncfw so it's unable to read it correctly.
In which case you'd have to track down which title needs to be uninstalled to fix it.

But hopefully a reset cleans it up for you!

this will not remove the problem if the improperly installed files are on sysnand

you can use this site 3DS Releases to find title ids of games then use fbi to look at emunand destination nand and remove the improperly installed game

and this site Title list - 3dbrew to see all non-game titles that should be in destination nand

this will take a long time that's why so many people resort to re-injecting a emunand backup from back before the problem existed
and those of us (like me) that just decided to ignore them and still have this problem are (like me) afraid to do anything wrong because the boxes exist in sysnand not emanand

Super weird, after a totally fresh install... microSD wiped, system format and everything loaded again from scratch, i install rxTools and enter emuNAND and there are the 2 gift's wanting unwrapped

So this shows it is from nothing installed etc.. just a very very strange bug

because the improper files are (like mine) and not on emunand but on real nand stored in your 3ds'es internal nand memory chip and get copied over to emunand where they are "hit"with a slightly different set of patches then sysnand is . . . . so to solve this problem you need to do what i said except from sysnand this is dangerous if you delete the wrong title you will brick your system
I never had this problem before until today, this is what happened

I upgraded from an old version of rxTools (10/02) to the very latest posted
. . . .i really dont want to sound disappointing and or like an ass but the best thing you can do is ignore them and or try another version of rxtools because its the applied patches in that build that allow the improperly installed files to appear in the first place so it only stands to reason that another version will apply slightly different patches (especially true of a nightly build)
when i changed rxtools releases to the 9-28 build my system went from displaying four black boxes to displaying only one

I have 3 black boxes in rxTools sysnand. They never showed up in Gateway emunand or rxTools emunand. They only appear in rxTools sysnand and i never installed anything to the sysnand. The only thing in my sysnand is FBI.
