@mashers did you actually publish beta 95's .3dsx? I forced the server to update but it still didn't seem to do anything.

@Marko76 @HenryLeonheart this might be why.
Yes I did, I just forgot to rebuild after changing the version number.

I'm about to visit a client, but when I get home I'll push an update with the logging enabled. I will then need people to post the content of this log after it crashes so I can try to diagnose the problem.

Weird, I've just downloaded the 3dsx from GH and the bug has returned. I rebuilt, pushed another update, and it's still not working. I'm about to reinstate the boot logging and then push another update to try to get some help tracking down the cause of this.

another question... i make my own theme, i choose a 5 seconds "bootsound.bin", but only plays one second and immediatly shows the Homebrew menu... i would like the bootsound plays complete and then the menu appear...
am i doing something wrong?

Guys, can you all please try beta 96? Either update through online update or download the 3dsx from GitHub. I've pushed another update with a rebuilt binary and whereas the beta 95 3dsx wasn't working for me, I've just downloaded the beta 96 binary and it seems to be working again. I wonder whether something went wrong with the last GitHub commit and the 3dsx didn't get overwritten for some reason. So please try beta 96 and let me know if this is working now. Thanks!

No you're not doing anything wrong. The splash screen only shows for as long as is needed until the menu finishes loading. I don't know of a way to detect when the file has finished playing, but I might be able to calculate the length from the size of the file by taking a sound of known length and dividing the size of the file by the length. Then I can work out the length of a sound from its file size using the reverse operation. I could then add an option to wait on the splash screen for this amount of time to allow the sound to finish playing. How does that sound?

I believe you don't have background music on your theme yet. Once you add background music it will take a little more time to load on the splash screen so you may hear the sound properly. :yay:

Ok guys, here's what I need you to do:

  1. Update to beta 97
  2. Go into Help/About and verify that you are definitely running on beta 97
  3. Launch a title which causes a hang upon returning to the launcher
  4. Quit the app and allow the launcher to hang
  5. DON'T ALLOW THE LAUNCHER TO RESTART. This will overwrite the log file. Instead, just take the SD card out
  6. Put the SD card in your computer and open the file /bootlog.txt
  7. Post the contents of the file here
This will help me work out where it's hanging.

hmm... any reason why my bootsound is really high pitch?
Using the gameboy boot sound. haha But yeah it's a few octaves above what it should be for some reason when played on the 3ds.
Make sure it's mono and 44.1KHz.

Yeah i swear is was (resampled in audacity), just checked it though and it's still 22 khz and seems to refuse to change no matter how many times i hit resample and save...hmm
That's not the right way to do it... In the bottom left corner in Audacity you need to change the project rate to 44100. Then just export and don't worry about resampling, and it will automatically convert it to 44.1khz.

Well ya learn something new everyday. :)
I don't usually use audacity for my audio work, usually Propellerhead Reason and/or Adobe Audition. :)
Just got audactiy for this sort of stuff 'cause it's quick.

Ahhh I love Reason! It's all I used when I was writing music :) Audacity doesn't have the best UI in the world, but it's handy for things like this.
