AhhhhSooo... My bad for misreading!! In that case I'd do the 2nd hand bin at JB HiFi and EB Games - We are a bit lucky over here as most shops are selling "new" stock that was delivered months ago! The only hassle is that most games are pulled from the cases over here so you might not get the one you see on the shelf...

When I get home I'll take a photo or list my YWW disc details (5.3.2) bought release day.

Listing the details might be more helpful, the label on the underside of the disc is REALLY tiny and hard to see without a bright light.

ok that's fine i will wait for IOSU hack , but will i require them games at all ?

so you are saying even if i update to 5.3.2 theres going to be a iosu hack for that version in the future ?
Shouldn't require any games with the IOSU Exploit.
Hykem said:
The flaw itself was patched after 5.2.0, so, the general rule applies, if you're on a low firmware already, don't update. If you have already updated then don't worry about it.
You're not missing out anything if you updated your console, this is just a warning for those who still are on a low firmware version. By not updating you will have access to more attack vectors in the future.
The plan is still to provide a full exploit that works up to the latest firmware (that means IOSU userland and kernel access up to 5.5.0).

Sidebar: Added a nice note to the kernel exploit and loadiine sections that will hopefully cut down on all the threads that have popping up about the 100x of freezing on the initial run of the exploit.

Is the TubeHax DNS enough to stop the Wii U from updating or auto-updating? My router, a Virgin Media Super Hub 2ac doesn't have website filtering unfortunately.

Yes, but having a backup measure in place is always a good idea (in case TubeHax goes down). This could be in the form of something like OpenDNS, but do not rely on OpenDNS to keep you safe by itself.

im thinking to buy wii u, how i can know that firmware is lower than 5.3.2?
You can't know for sure, but the best bet is to try to get the oldest one you can find. Get a bundle with physical discs, not pre-installed games on the Wii U's hard drive. An ideal bundle would be Splatoon, since it has 5.3.2 on the disc so you can update your Wii U to that for Loadiine.

Thanks, would be much appreciated. Ukiwf1, bundles with the pre-installed games can be a lottery so physical discs are a safer bet. Not sure which versions of MK8 are original (PAL I'm guessing?) and which are reprints but would Splatoon have reprints yet? So maybe safer with updating with Splatoon... Better wait for a few other people's input though.

What's the 9915... number? for YWW. I think that's the important code. Thanks for the other game codes, hopefully it will help some others on here

Once I find the cover (3 kids under 10, it might be some time LOL!!) I'll check the barcode/SKU number (the 991xxx) against another couple of covers and add to the findings. Other posts have suggested a B added to the ID which would indicate a second revision.

So i have aquired a "broken" wii u(video settings are on rca not hdmi). It is on version 3.0.1 U. My question is would it be better to update using my smash bros disc or borrow a friends copy of splatoon? Also how do I go about updating using the disc? it is not connected to the internet so i would just pop the disc in, correct?

If you could report the code on the bottom of the disc next to the inner ring, we are pretty sure that is where the version info lies on the disc itself. Its pretty hard to see. The code on the top of the disc is generic.

Betting you just pasted the common key string into a text file and renamed it to bin? The string is in hex. Use the keygenerator.bat out of the DefinitivePackage and rename the key.bin that it pops out instead.

I'm not going to even try to understand how a Wii U can be on RCA only and not use HDMI. But to answer your question, it depends if you want to go to 5.2.0 (Smash) or 5.3.2 (Splatoon). To update using disc, make sure your Wii U is completely offline! There is a great guide detailing the steps in the WUP Installer thread, under "Update Safely from Disc (to 5.3.2)"

as in the guy i got it from didnt know to set the video to hdmi and thought it was broken. Thank you a bunch for the info. Now is there any benefit to 5.2.0 over 5.3.2?

Smooth.

Read "Should I update my Wii U?" in the OP, but short answer: I don't think so. "< 5.2.0" doesn't = 5.2.0 to me, so I would say either don't upgrade at all and wait for naehrwert's IOSU Exploit, or go to 5.3.2 for hacks now.

What's the dev situation on the IOSU exploit?
From a user's perspective: same as what's in the OP under "Should I update my Wii U?"
From a technical perspective: Hykem (and others?) are continuously documenting IOSU Syscalls at http://wiiubrew.org/wiki/IOSU_Syscalls, which will be necessary to use any hacks with an IOSU Exploit.

what exactly is the iosu exploit?
An exploit that will allow us open access to hacking the Wii U; USB loaders, etc. (see: Wii)
