Im very curious as to how this works without kernel hacks.

Might have some of this wrong but I think it's a good guess.

1. Ninjhax 2.x works by getting control of Home Menu.
2. Home Menu has the privilege to launch titles.
3. So nh 2.x homebrew can be launched as a given title. (that's where the .xml file comes in)
4. Once homebrew code is running under a given title's process, it has permission to dump it's own data. ( like romfs and exefs in braindump)

You meant unpack the data files etc (images, sounds, scripts) ? Then yes use ctrtool. But tell me what's wrong with ctrtool, you can't launch it, don't know how ? Explain

crtool always crashes at some point for me... I tried extracting the files from PLvsPW:AA, but it always crashes at the same file (after extracting a lot of them). Same for Senran Kagura Burst.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

so if i play the hackrom , what do i do with the save data of the original rom ? , just erase and star a real one wiht the hackrom?
