I just bought a 128gb usb and loaded it with stuff. Popped it into the Wii U (tried every port) and its not detecting it in any aplications, not even the Homebrew Channel. Its a PNY brand if that matters. My computer reads it fine and when in Wii U mode I get the "Do you want to format?" prompt so it is a working device. Help pls I just spent $30 on this thing...

I would have thought it's the format too. But do normal USB Sticks even work for the Wii? I only used external harddrives for this.

They definitley do, Ive used a 16gb version of the same brand usb I just bought before and it worked like it should

Im gonna just go ahead and reformat it. Gonna take a while to move all the stuff on it back and forth.

Can I use a format other than FAT32? I somehow feel like thats the problem, I tried temprorarily using my USB for other functions that require different formats and it works fine, the drive is definitley not broken. vWii does not want to take it for some reason

you should test out that 128gb plash drive on the pc \. it could be a 4 gig one marked as a 128gb. format it in pc then copy pc files over to it till its filled then copy back. if there is no problem then its real.

Post a syscheck of your vwii.
Also have to ask, your disc drive is working and reads real wii discs correctly?

When it shows in usb loaders what happens when you launch games, error code or anything?

Disc drive works fine. Most of games on the USB show up in Configurable USB Loader (the app I always use for backups) but when I boot them it does the normal thing where it displays the loading text with the current IOS number (249) and then when its supposed to boot into the selected game, I get a black screen and have to turn the system off because I cant exit it. No error codes or anything. It even displays titles and plays the channel music of each game (Yknow like when you click a game on the home menu and you get a little jingle) so it is able to read some of the data.

Configurable USB Loader is the app I have that is doing this partial read thing. Nintendont and the emulators I have dont see the USB at all. Also would love to do a syscheck for you but idk what that is.

Could you reccomend something I could get at Bestbuy? Im not sure what Im exactly looking for. I wouldnt think the issue is power because its just a regular thumbdrive but if it is please link me to the proper product I need.

Really? Flash drives use so little power. i cant see a flash drive using more then 500mA current...
the wii U powers my little 30gb 1.8inch hard drive perfectly with out a Y splitter. Its an old ipod video drive i placed in a enclosure. that things uses way more power then a Flash drive. I use a 128 gb flash drive on the wii u and its a PNY

Well I ordered a Y cable on Amazon anyway so I guess we'll see if its really the issue. The drive didnt work on my old modded white Wii so I guess its not a problem with my Wii U or the vWii. Like you said, I dont think a flash drive requires a ton of power anyway but you never know I guess.

Also apparently Y cables are outdated and "useless" because Best Buy, Walmart and Radio Shack do not carry them

I have noticed that some flash drives refuse to work on the wii or the wii u. one of the 16gb drives i have will not work in any of the usb loaders. its odd since they all use the standard usb mass storage device. Even my Iomega usb powered Zip 250mb drive works on the wii u. Its slow though lol

Well I have a 16gb version of the same exact brand and model as the ones thats not working and it works fine so it shouldnt be an issue. I guess power could be the issue, 128gb is a lot and the original Wii wasnt even designed to read and write to and from a USB anyway. Idk at this point, all I can do for now is wait for the Y cable to come in and see if that fixes the issue

Y cable just came in, still not working in vWii. The Y cable works fine, it still sees that theres a USB connected in Wii U mode.

Please help me ;-;
