Hacking Cia save file compared to sky3ds save file

Hi again, if I use my 9.5 N3dsXL with sky3ds and then I want to play online with a O3dsXL with CFW cia will it be problematic save game wise?

is it a different file type?

where is it located?

will I be able to use it(save file) with each of the methods?

do I even have access to it?

You can use Homebrew Save Manager on 9.5 N3DSXL to extract RAW saves and SaveDataFiller on the o3DSXL to import the RAW save data back

Why not just cut out the middle-man and use SDF for both operations?

Because he's on 9.5. But if he plans on migrating the save to his old 3DS anyway, then he should be able to just use SDF to get the save there, and also import it to the CIA, all in one step.

It's a leaked SDK save manager which lets you dump saves from CIA games and cart games (it should work with Sky3DS too, just make sure you have the game you want selected before starting it). We can't link to a download here, but we can talk about its functions/usage.

On your O3DS, yes, it should be fine.

Sorry, I meant that you'll have to do all the transfers on your O3DS (you could use a homebrew manager on your N3DS I guess, but they're still not quite as good as SDF in my opinion). Once the save is back on your Sky it should work fine on the N3DS.

I think it writes them to your cart's SD card (don't quote me on that, I don't have a Sky3DS), but when you use SDF, it'll treat the Sky3DS like any retail cart, and give you the 'raw' save data from the game you have selected. You can then use SDF to import that raw data into the CIA copy of the game, and vice-versa, you can use SDF to export the save from the CIA, and re-import it back your Sky.

On its own, you can't just take a raw Sky3DS save and try to import it into a CIA. Sky uses its own save format, as far as I know, which is incompatible with CIAs, Gateway, and other carts. Using SDF will get around that.

There are 2 types of save system in games.

Type 1 games (the majority) save the file in the cart, so you can swap your retail games/Sky3ds around different systems and you can keep playing where you left because it is saved in the cardtridge, you can test that yourself, just put the Sky3ds in your O3DS when you get it and you'll find that most games have their save files intact.

Type 2 games are rarer (Pokemon and Smash Bros games are an example of type 2) the save the file is on your SD card.

Type 1 are a lot more common than 2 tho.

pokemon and smash bros are the main games I am going to play so what does it mean for me?

If O3DS SysNAND < 6.0:

Sky3DS --- Dump the save with Homebrew Save Manager or SVDT on N3DS
O3DS CIA --- Import the dumped save with SDF

If O3DS SysNAND is 6.0-9.2:

Sky3DS --- Dump the CTR Card save with SDF on O3DS
O3DS CIA --- Import the dumped save with SDF

If you convert Pokemon all series, Animal Crossing all series, Monster Hunter 4U,
Don't forget Delete Secure Value before importing save!
