GBAtemp Features on Opencritic

Capture.PNG

OpenCritic.com is a new website to rival Metacritic in aggregating video game reviews. The site features a fully customizable drop down list so you can choose to display and read only your favourite publications.

We are happy to announce that Official GBAtemp reviews will now feature on OpenCritic.com!

What makes OpenCritic different? Check out the following info from their FAQ:
  • Transparency. No hidden weightings. No black-box processes. All standards and calculations are publicly verifiable.
  • Customization. Gamers can create their own personal score by customizing which publications they trust. And critics can submit edits to both their score and quote at any time.
  • More than a number. We aggregate all reviews, not just numerical ones. We also want to show the human side behind the review and score, with our first step being to display the author.
  • Gamers first. We are committed to continuing development in the review aggregation space and want to engage the gaming community to decide which features to build next

Be sure to check out the new site:

Good game website. not to be a too much of a critic, only problem I found was the lack titties... I hope a future update fixes this.

Verdict:

+ Good graphics
+ Good gameplay
+ Helpful in the future
+ Super easy to use

- Lack titties

bookmarked.. 9.5/10..

It's a neat website, but does it treat a 5/5 stars the exact same as a 100/100 for calculating the average? That seems a little silly.
Edit: Never mind, it shows them as a 100 score but doesn't use them for the average.

Is there a list of such sites?
Sites that don't give a score are probably relatively independent, but even those get games for free in advance of release from the publisher.
You can't trust user reviews either, because of review bombing on Amazon and other sites.

1) No demo, no buy
2) Take your chances

Those are your options.

Well many times they are better since they do not get paid extra money and many places like here pay out of thier own pockets for the games.

It's not true.
GBAtemp gets at least some of their games from the publisher like many other sites.
Example: Release day (USA) for Persona 4 Dancing All Night: 29Sep. GBAtemp review release date: 28Sep. GBAtemp received a copy of this game from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing it. More than that we don't know.

OK so you can customize which reviewers you trust. Which reviewers do you trust though? You need a feature where you can list games you like and pick reviewers that rated those games highly.

I meant that I have seen times when official temp reviews have been from staff using thier own money.

You make it sound as if we use that as incentive to give things a better score though, which is not something we do here.

For example, Nintendo sent us Copies of Mario Party 10 and Kirby and the Rainbow Curse early as well, and we voted both of those games 5 and 4 apiece.

If a game is shit, we're going to tell you it's a shit game, regardless of who we receive it from. Integrity is key for our content, and if we don't like something, we aren't going to BS a score just because we received it free.

Ew, don't remind me of Kirby and the Rainbow Shit :(

It's neat to see that our reviews are getting more and more publicity, even if Opencritic is a bit new.

I agree, you reviews are very informative and unbiased. Plus you guys actually respond to the users and discuss the review

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament

maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
