Hello! Planning on following this guide to region swap my new 3ds. Just two concerns I'd like to address before I go through with it:

Is this method safe to perform? It was mentioned a page or two back that this method is outdated and not safe to perform. Just wanted to verify that.

Also, say we are able to access emunand beyond in 9.5 in the near future. How would I go about updating my firmware? Would I still be able to do it via system menu or would I have to use some other method due to the region swap?

Thank you!

As long as you are 100% sure you are playing around with EmuNAND, you should be safe, because even if EmuNAND will crash somewhere (like mine possibly did today), the SysNAND stays safe out of trouble.

Speaking of...
I'm stuck at part 3, point 10:
Start emuNANDTool again and hit "Inject NAND to emuNAND". Select the emuNAND.bin file that we just modified. When finished put the SD card back into your (N)3DS and use the Gateway Launcher or CFW to boot it. It might take a couple tries the first time for some reason. If everything went right you will be presented with a loading screen. You just changed your region. Congratulations!
I am aware that it may take some tries but I'm trying I think eight time now, both with auto-load and manual launching EmuNAND, still no dice.
I can see the Gateway loading screen (the one with Dragon-thingie), then it goes black on both screens...and that's it.
Maybe I will ask it that way, I haven't used the mentioned Hex Editor but PROBABLY I did it properly (I hope!).
The difference in size of files is now 776000 kB for emuNAND.fat16.bin.out.out VS 965632 kB for emuNAND.bin .
I have tried to Region Change from 9.2.0-20E EmuNAND as core to 9.9.0-26J downloaded by the mentioned program (3DNUS or whatnot).
Not sure what other info might be helpful here...

Thank you for advance and have a nice day~

Can someone help me on how to use this using the latest rxtools? also does changing region ftom jp to usa alter my pokemon as jp save?

I was able to perform a successful region change, don't have any duped titles or anything like that, keyboard works fine, even NFC works. But for some reason the system crashes if I press the power button (once). This is the "In Sleep Mode, the system can..." screen. Perhaps I deleted it. Would anyone happen to know the title ID for this so I can make sure it's installed? I checked everything, and this is the only thing that appears to be broken, for now anyway.

EDIT: This seems to only be a problem using Gateway's CFW. I've been using reinand and this problem no longer occurs.

Thanks a lot for the guide, by the way! Definitely a huge help. I'd like to make a suggestion, though. A lot of guides prior to this recommended we exclude titles that start with the following when switching system titles out (and none of these differ between regions): 0004001B 0004800F 00048005 00040130 00040138 00048005.

Reason being that something like this may happen. So just to make sure I wasn't missing anything important, I used a game to update my emuNAND from the source region first before proceeding to install the titles for the target region, and of course excluding the above titles (basically, my emuNAND went from 9.0.0-20E -> 9.5.0-25E -> 9.5.0-25U).

I've been using my region changed emunand for days now, and nothing is unstable - it runs perfectly. That's proof enough to me that you don't need the above "dangerous" titles and it's better to be safe about it and not install them.

Used this handy title list (USA) to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything. I compared my .cia directory against that list, and used 3DNUS (along with 3dbrew.org's title list to make sure I was downloading the correct version) to download anything that was missing, such as StreetPass Mii Plaza.

But I'd also like to point out that some important .cias for this are not available on 3DNUS because Nintendo removed them from their servers, and this guide hasn't been updated to reflect that. This isn't a problem for Old 3DS users, but New 3DS users can't go any higher than 9.5.0. All I'll say about that is that there's a certain pastebin floating around that you can search for that would solve that problem and allow you to proceed with the guide.

Edit: Forgot to mention, it is a HUGE TIME SAVER if you go through and delete the system titles from the \title folder in WinImage. You don't need to waste your time deleting them using FBI - it takes longer and I've done a successful transfer by deleting them in WinImage.

Uber and everyone else.
Thanks alot yall! :)
I've got my n3ds black now setup with a US firmware and there are no major issues.
Still need to do research into alternatives to launching Emunand besides Gateway but at least I have a clean working slate.

Cheers yall

I've got a 2Ds with 9.2.0-20E fw. I tried to download the 9.8.0-25U, or a lower version, using 3dnus but it doesn't finish to download....so downloaded succesfully the 9.9.0-26U version. I followed entirely the guide and i've done everithing correctly, but when i try to enter in the emuNAND the console freezes on a black screen. How can i fix it?

Yes i'm using the Gateway. And i boot on emunand by Gateway launcher. I go to the site http://go.gateway-3ds.com and i press L. The i click A on "Boot Gateway Mode" and it freezes on a black screen.....i tried changing to 9.5.0U, 10.0U or 10.1U but the results is the same. What am i doing wrong?

Edit: i've tried again with 10.1U without injecting the secureinfo_A, it doesn't freeze and gave me 2 settings apps. I opened the right one and it said that i was on an european DS (10.1E). Then i extracted my emunand, i injected the secureinfo_A usa and i injected the emunand. But when i try to boot emunand it freezes on a black screen...what can i do?

Try this :
Found the 9.0U or 9.2U update pack on that iso site.
Remove all the cias starting with 0004001B, 0004800F, 00048005, 00040130 et 00040138.
Do a format emunand. (with the gateway menu).
Install all the rest of the cias with BBM on your 9.2E emunand.
Go to the system setting while in emunand and format your console.
Inject the US secure_info into your emunand.
Boot into your emunand and do the initial setup.
(Optionnal) Clean the leftovers titles.

I've done a few region changes previously with Dumped Secureinfo,

just curious if its possible to convert an existing secureinfo to another region,
as I can't find a KOR secureinfo and I'll like to convert an existing copy to KOR version.

I try it right know, i'll tell you if it works

Edit: can be a secureinfo_A problem? because i'm using a 2DS and not a 3DS. Can be this the problem of the freezing?

It's the same for the 3 models (O3DS/2DS/N3DS)
Ok.....i'm doing what you said, i hope it will work

Edit: i've done what you said but still the same error....it freezes on a black when i try to boot the emunand...
i noticed that after i installed all the cias of the usa region and after i close BBM the ds say to me to not remove the sd without turning off the ds
What is the problem? @VerseHell

how we will be able to download title with 3dnus if nintendo removed some of them from server?

i mean, i want to switch from 9.2.0-22J to 9.2.0-22EUR, but if we can't download all the title the firmware will be incomplete.. can't this lead to a bad emunand?

I successfully got a 4.2J O3DS to boot into 9.8U via Gateway & RxTools 2.6 earlier this year. Recently, it has begin to exhibit random shutdowns when coming out of sleep mode. I have a theory as to what could be the culprit, but I could use a little more insight. I think that the source of the issue is related to update nag.

When updating the emuNAND of a region changed system, what method is better: updating via CIA or System Settings?
