Okay so i recently purchased a new 3ds as well as a sky3ds. I got the sky first and waited on my n3ds only to find out that it was on FIRMWARE 9.1 JAP!! I expected a higher firmware as to why i bought the sky but I want to know what should i do. Should i keep the sky or get a gateway instead. I told the informant of where i purchased the card this story and their willing to swap my cards but how can i run the exploit if i wont have the sky anymore? I have reinand and ntr on my 9.5 emunand as of now.

DONT UPDATE WHATEVER YOU DO. Use gateway ultra to install an older version of settings app then use the MSET nds profile exploit to install emunand and you can install .cia and pirate games. And as with the sky3ds, well I wouldn't be bothered swapping but you can if you want to since you can already install .cia and gateway can obviously run 3ds roms. So get a gateway if you can.

It was from amazon i dont remember the seller but i can look it up. And thanks i guess ill try and switch it still while staying on my current emunand. But how would i go about installing the gateway without having the sky anymore?

If it were me I'd see if I could swap the Sky for an R4 card (+ partial refund), then use that to install the 4.5 MSET. No need for Gateway if you're on ≤9.2 imo.

You can install emunand and gateway flashcard helps. And gateway comes with 3ds mode AND ds mode card.

But doesnt gateway have some sort of gui as far as its gateway menu? that was the real draw for me since i hate that stupid button. Also with the fact that when it comes to n3ds guides things are scare and hard to go by, so i spent nearly the whole day today trying to figure stuff out

If you've already got an emuNAND set up with ReiNAND then there's no real need for a Gateway. Just downgrade your system settings to 4.5, get hold of a cheap R4 card and use this to install the MSET exploit. This will allow you to launch your emuNAND (ReiNAND) by simply selecting the "DS Profile" option in system settings.

Sure, Gateway has a nice little GUI that pops up for selecting which ROM to load, but imo installing .cia files to your system storage is a much better way to launch/manage games. Plus they tend to just work (with online support) without having to fiddle around patching headers and whatnot.

If I was in your shoes what I would do is

1) Use sky to load OOT or CN and make a nand backup
2) Use sky3ds to load Cubic Ninja, run pasta, run FBI and install BBM and install all the 9.2U firmware files
3) Use d9 and make an xor of your nand and swap the region
4) Repeat 1-3 for USA region and delete JPN files
5) Use sky to load OOT or CN and make emunand and unlink the nands
6) Use sky3ds to load Cubic Ninja, run pasta, run FBI and install BBM
7) Boot reinand and sell the sky3ds
8) Install sudokuhax for mset

True, but if he ever decided to play a DS cart and subsequently overwrote the MSET, he'd need a way to re-install it. An R4 would be the cheapest way of doing it.

Gateway has a rom loading menu. After booting Gateway mode, you'd press select to scroll through all of the roms you have stored on the mSD.
You'd need Cubic Ninja (Sky3ds cubic ninja rom works) or OOT with Gateways save game installed on it in order to launch Gateway the first time.

You can use the Sky3ds to access the Gateway menu & Ninjhax if you wanted to setup cfw / downgrade the Mset.
If you were to downgrade the Mset & still wanted Gateway, you could do that with Sky3ds (Cubic Ninja).

If you decide to go the cfw route, i'd suggest Reinand.
Guide in my signature should be able to get you through the process without much if any trouble.

im pretty sure my mset is already downgraded. I have the ds profile launcher already installed. I just dont know why my cias wont work, i get an error in japanese that makes me restart my system. Theyre VC games btw

Oh, the wording gets to me sometimes.... Re-read your statement.

Are we not downgrading some system files, i think we may be and for the record the 'official gateway downgrade' does not downgrade a full firmware either and is really no more a downgrade than this. So in your statement we can not downgrade a old 3ds either as it is just the essential files for the exploit being lowered and flashed, you see.

To re-install mset without any hardware, or is it better to hold on to sky/cubic ninja just in case you want to format etc. It is an individual choice but Ronhero is no fool in his comment.

You can use the Sky with Ninjhax and PastaCFW (+FBI) to downgrade your mset and install the ROP first, then return it for a Gateway and you'll be ready to use it right away, no need for Cubic Ninja or OoT anymore.
If you can get a full refund you can also just downgrade mset and setup a CFW before returning it, there isn't really any need for Gateway, but it does make ROM loading nicer.

Guess I was late to the party.

Iirc not all VC games will work, i've only installed a couple myself.
I'd try another version or a different game for confirmation.

I think in step 2 you mean to say installing all 9.2J files instead of U files since that only comes afterward, right?

Thanks the real jbye, I was looking for something along those lines! As for anyone else, I'm trying to install a us emunand over the 9.5jp one I have. Could anyone link me or vaguely describe a way to reach a tutorial to do this? I dumped the eshop file whose name I've forgotten at this point off of another n3dsxl for this region
