Is ISO loading technically possible on Wii U with the current kernel exploit?
Or do we need to find another exploit ? how far are we from iso loading?

If I remember correctly Marionumber1 once said it is theoretically possible, although it won’t be permanent (i.e you have to redo the procedure every time you reboot the system).

In fact it is possible to do almost anything non-permanent just with the current userspace and kernel exploit (emulators, homebrew…). However due to the fact that very few people are currently working on the homebrew scene the progress is slowing down. (I wish I could help myself but I know it is very difficult since I first have to study encryption, processor instructions, filesystem, python…)

Marionumber1 confirmed that USB can be accessed through just Kernel exploit, but as depaul said, nothing can be installed permanently like homebrew channel in Wii with only kernel. You'll have to launch it everytime through browser like in 3ds.
Loading game files is already possible with kernel exploit using cafiine through network at the moment (some guys are already using it to inject n64, nds roms with it), it will eventually support USB too. We just need more developpers to port/create homebrew now, we already got enough access in the system to take off.

What you can do is spread the word through other forums/communities to attract developpers to the scene. I'm surprised how the release of the kernel exploit isn't heard of in many known console hacking websites...

So you basically get someone a wii for like $150, you expect him to do weeks of research and hack it all in 2-3 days ?

Was it you who bought it for him ?

It's already possible you said? How?

Just in theory basically, since you asked if it can be done with kernel access.
However it's not as simple as replacing rom games like what they do with VC. Since there's some kind of code execution that needs to be done for each Wii U game before reading its files.
What is that code? signature checks ? I have no idea ^^' you gonna need to ask the devs for that.

You'll have to get the game RPX loaded into memory first, which is much more difficult than replacing the rest of it.

What is RPX ? since kernel exploit gives us memory access, technically it is possible to do that without needing IOSU access then ?

RPX is the main game executable, which you'll have to load along with its associated libraries. You don't necessarily need IOSU for backup loading, but you do need it for ISO loading, and you'll need a way to get all the code and files loaded on the PPC.

If you have the time I think you should explain those stuff in the wiiubrew, I mean you basically explain what is needed for stuff like back up loading, movies reading through usb etc...
That way developpers who have the motivation can contribute.
Basically what I mean is, the repeated questions here must be cleared in the wiki. That way you won't have to always anwser them, which will help you concentrate more on what you're doing (I believe you are working on an IOSU exploit now).

And you should consider explaining stuff for noobs like me such as what PPC stands for :D.

Most of the information is there on the wiki, but someone who wants to write a backup loader has to put it all together.

Would it be possible to provoc an installation of something permanent (like an unsigned custom dashboard made with one of the old sdk..) thru a fake update? Like, by inserting a game that ask to update just to trigger an installation process, then opening the browser and go to a server wich would contain the custom dashboard's RPX, and make it install thru the provocated game update? (If so, i guess the specific game would need to be started each time to launch the custom-dashboard, right?)

EDIT: what is the exact directory of games updates?

You can only install properly signed content, and just doing a fake update won't work. I'm not sure where game updates are stored.

Yah but isnt it signed when compiled thru the sdk? If so, wouldnt it be possible to THEN relaunch an unsigned version thru the kexploit?
And i didnt meant 'making' a fake update, i meant using the installation process prococated by an update..

Oh ok.. but someoe with a dev kit could launch it, right? TSK have one..right?
Yeah, they can make their own apps and run them, so they technically have a backup loader, just get all the files, make a wud/wumad, and then run it. Good luck trying to get one though :P You're better off spending the money on actual games
