Unfortunately, yeah. Also make sure you always have NAND backups sitting around just in case. You never know when something might go wrong and you need it.

Welp , hopefully GW will give an update to 9.9 for N3DS ... Thank you so much .

I don't believe ReiNAND has support for GBA games yet unfortunately; however, it is listed under features in progress on the original release thread. I think Pasta is currently the only option for GBA games on the N3DS.
Can Pasta be run alongside gateway emunand without causing problems? Or would gateway emunand and pasta emunand need to be run off separate SD cards?

Pasta and Gateway can be on the same SD without issue. The only problem is that Pasta does not support emuNAND, so you will be installing to sysNAND.

Do you think I should hold off? I have a USA copy of Cubic Ninja, but the n3ds I wish to do this on is JPN, is there any alternative to tracking down some $100 JPN cubic ninja cart?

Is there any likely indication that alternatives might become available in the future, like rxtools coming to n3ds or gateway emunand supporting agb_firm, or alternative launch methods coming to pasta? I don't know the scene well enough to know if those are actively planned features of any of those projects.

It's likely that playing GBA games using emuNAND on the N3DS will be possible soon. If you're not too concerned with playing GBA games ASAP, I would hold off for a bit. You can use a Sky3DS as an alternative to a JP copy of CN. Just load the JP rom of CN onto a Sky3DS and it will work just like a real copy.

ReiNAND has been getting updated pretty frequently, so I suspect it won't be too long before GBA support is implemented. I believe rxTools is being ported to the N3DS as well, but there's not a lot of word on their progress or if it will support all of the features the O3DS version has. We'll have to see what happens with the version 3 release. Not sure if Gateway will add in support for agb_firm or not; I know a lot of people have been asking Gateway for agb_firm support recently. Maybe they will implement it along with cheat support in the next update?

Thanks for explaining it, I'll just hold off for now!

Was just wondering if Powersaves is still the only way to extract headers on >9.2 FW? Thanks.

Edit: I think I own retail cartridges from all three manufactures. As we know there's no way knowing for sure before checking as specific game can come in any one of those for different region, right? But presumably if my games are in fact from said manucatures listed (all in EU versions) MH4U (45), SSB (AE) and Pokemon Y (C2), could I extract the headers without Powersaves?

And as said before thank you for all the help.

Is there a way to use DLC in game with same region, but with diffrent region on cosole? For example US game+US dlc on EUR console?
I have GW emunand 9.9.

Should work, but you would have to install updates and dlc for the game manually as cia. Won't work with out of region eshop. You in general also need to be careful not to wipe dlc, because a lot of actions can wipe unsigned dlc I think, avoid opening the in game dlc shop I think, not sure exactly what does it though.

Does anyone know where game updates are stored on the SD card?
They are stored on the system SD card, under the "Nintendo 3DS" folder. Specifically, within the \Nintendo 3DS\[ID-High]\[ID-Low]\title\[Title-High]\[Title-Low]\content folders, if I remember correctly.

What is the best way to install a .cia to the sysnand? I have an o3ds on sysnand 9.2 and a gateway with emunand 9.9.
I would like to 1. install and play dlc for my retail game cards, and 2. play gba games without an emulator. I know I will probably need a custom firmware, but I dont want to change much because I am happy with the gateway setup. thanks for the help!

You could setup rxTools as well. RxTools is compatible with GW emuNAND and will let you launch your retail carts in emuNAND; that way you could avoid installing cias to sysNAND. If you really want to install cias to sysNAND, you could boot GW mode in sysNAND by holding the B button when booting GW mode from the launcher menu.

Would that be gateway classic mode or is this different?

I have an old 3DS with Gateway. 4.5 base, 9.9 EmuNAND (latest system update I believe). Many of my titles prompt me to update, and let me download from the eShop, but the content doesn't seem to save on the system. It just asks me to redownload on next launch, like it never got it the first time. Any ideas as to why this might be?

RxTools has the signature patches, so it will let you run unsigned cias and homebrew. Think of it as a super classic mode.
Ok, I am researching rxtools and think I figured out most of it. Once rxtools is installed, and I install a dlc to emunand, rxtools will let me launch a retail cart and it will use the dlc in emunand? Will it still use the old save from sysnand? Also, I read I need to install GBA games to both sysnand and emunand for them to work in emunand. If I do this, will these GBA games work from the gateway emunand as well? Thanks again for the help!!

What's the difference between regular roms and 'online patched roms'?

I found a thread on reddit that has a bunch of 'online patched roms' in .cia format and I'm curious as to what the uploader is doing.

Saves from the patched versions and the un-patched aren't interchangeable. Are .cia less prone to being banned than .3ds?

edit: found the answer on my own (where's the delete button)

.cia can go online safely (for now). Which means I don't need to open up my limited edition copy of Bravely Default to strip the header

this asked before im sure but I cant find any info on it or solid info rather
can the new 3ds be downgraded and if so, what is the lowest firmware it will go to

my guess would be the lowest f/w available for your region. So for US and EUR I think the lowest f/w starts at 9.0.0-20

you definitely shouldn't be able to install o3DS f/w on the n3DS
