I have two fat PS3's. The CECHPxx model is pretty intact. It's missing a harddrive, and the HDD caddy, but other than that it's complete. The CECHAxx model is gutted pretty bad though. It's missing the BluRay drive, as well as the Memory Card Reader, and the Wifi adapter.
What I'd like to do is create a frankenstein unit using bits of both, with the CECHA's mobo being the brain. I'm aware that the CECHP's bluray drive is married to it's motherboard, but I read somewhere that once you downgrade the firmware (on your mobo of choice) that there are ways to use an unmarried bluray drive.
What I would eventually like to have is a PS3 that's backwards compatible with PS2 games.
If I were to use the bluray drive from my CECHPxx model on my CECHAxx model would the console still boot without the MC Reader, or the Wifi adapter?
I also heard that there might be a way to play PS2 games on a non-backwards compatible PS3. I don't know if any of this is true though.
There's a lot I don't know and if any of you guys could clarify things for me that would be awesome.
