i have windows 7, some months ago i noticed when i open a folder and delete an exe file, it doesn't get deleted.. it appears as deleted at first, but if i press f5 or enter the folder again, the file still shows there, after some seconds its really gone...

i ignored this issue for sometime... but this is really annoying now.. specially when deleting folders... every time i try to delete a folder with an exe inside, i need to wait a few moments til the exe disapears and then i have to delete the folder again...

when i try to replace the exe, or delete the folder, it says i don't have permition.. it also says that when i try to use a command prompt to delete the files...

Virus?
Nah probably not.

But you can install Unlocker to see what's using the .exe files making you unable to delete them, and "unlock" the files. It also gives you a delete option so you can do it all in one step from the Explorer context menu.

Perhaps it is "in use" by some antivirus you are using that wants to check the file once and again before any kind of access.
I don't know, but antivirus software is the worst type of virus.

I agree it sounds like an antivirus thing. If it was malicious it probably wouldn't go away period. Making it slightly delayed probably wouldn't be something a virus would bother doing.

or your computer is a potato, but even then.

tried unlocked on the past, it can't find a problem...
Do you have an antivirus scanner? Maye he's the trouble maker :)
i use avast, i thought it was avast and i unninstalled to check, still happened
i also had malware bytes, yesterday i unninstalled it to check if it was the problem.. it wasn't..

its not so much a potato, isn't slow, it "walks" (reference to patch walks) i mean, its a core 2, 4gb of ddr2 ram, but it works really well (less than 1 minute to turn on) it's smooth, doesn't drag... (i get really annoying if it "dragged")
have no issues with it

i think i know the problem.. i think it could be windows VSS (shadow copy) but i don't want to turn it off (if i turn it off previous info gets deleted), it was really usefull on the past..
either that or a windows tool like malware thing.. or maybe even avast but i remember trying to unninstall it to solve it...

but i don't know what to do to diagnose where is the issue..

First, I would ask what this .exe is that you're trying to delete in the first place (as opposed to uninstalling the normal way).

That aside, another thing to try is deleting it whilst in safe mode. That way, there are no registers running to block or regenerate the deleted files.

be sure to be in admin mode
could the exe be used if s? cause i don't hear a defenetly no.
what exe do you try to remove (since not all are unlockable in windows itself).
do a chkdsk <drive letter>:/f
be sure to be in admin mode
go to safe mode and try to delete
if not try boot disk to delete.
it's not windows itself i can assure you since i have over 30 different pc, and all editions of windows 7... never had this bug, but i used to have a virus with same thing happening (don't remember the name though).
ow wait i remember one thing about the virus i had, it was a worm packed it a txt file (all text file/docs seeemed to be there twice, virus scanner didn't find it for me so i i cleaned the autorun in regedit, and then again a virus scan (after reboot) now it found the bug.

any exe file
any exe file that i try to delete it takes some time to eventually get deleted, its like windows is telling "i will delete that later, i am not in the mood right now"
this happens on both downloaded files (like tools for gba i had been using) and files i create or try to replace
if i try to replace a file, it says permition denied.. but if i wait some time it gets unlocked...

i started to learn to code C yesterday, and everytime i try to build the executable to test, the error shows up saying the previous file is in use, and i need to wait a few moments before windows decides to release the older exe... this is why this issue is really bothering

Just test it out on the file or folder you want to remove and see if it works, meaning that it's not coming back.

no difference.. took ownership of a folder and exe still took a long time to disapear
tried to take ownership before copying and after copying

I can see that problem being a royal PITA in this case.

I found the solution to a similar case in some forum:
MacMonsi77 said:
you can test my solution before changing any settings, just start the command prompt and enter:
"net start AeLookupSvc"
"net start PcaSvc"

now try to delete some ".exe" file... (or a copy of some .exe) - if windows explorer deletes the files immediately (press F5 to refresh and check), then it works!

open "services.msc" and set the startup type of the "AeLookupSvc" ("Application Experience" or "Anwendungserfahrung") and the "PcaSvc" ("Programm Compatibility Assistant" or "Programmkompatibilitäts-Assistent-Dienst") to "automatic"

I got a Potato OS. The screen and keyboard was made out of mashed potatoes...it didn't last very long.
