I followed this guide (https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-dump-your-own-3ds-ds-games-saves.274290/) on backing up DS games with EZ-Flash IV (which is slot 2). I'm using the original Nintendo DS. I downloaded Wood Dumper Slot 2. I DLDI patched the wooddumper_slot2.nds file from this site (http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/). I followed the instructions from the site (downloading http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/downloads/ezsd.dldi and the patching software and it has packed the wooddumper_slot2.nds file successfully.

I copy the patched wooddumper_slot2.nds file to my R4 RTS 3DS SDHC DS card (which can read DS files. I have that (slot 1) and my EZ-Flash IV card (slot 2) of my DS. I boot up the DS game and the screen says version: r27

Set a Target card.
<A>: OK

I press A and the message I got was:
card it: 0x0
secure cardid fail: ffffffff
dump fail. EXTRACT card.

After explaining all of this to you, am I'm doing anything wrong? I was searching for a youtube video on this and can't find any.

When select a target card appears. I took out the DS cartridge and put in the game cartridge and it says:
0xfc2
secure area ok.

Yeah the EZ4 is actually a DS cart, or was until they removed the functionality a few updates back and that thread has probably not been updated to reflect this development. Before that you would have had to put the .nds file on your EZ4, boot into DS mode on the EZ4 (either because you modified your DS with flashme or if your DS cart has a nopass that would do) and then do the swapping as necessary.

If you have an older model of the EZ4 then you might be able to go back to the old loader. If it is one of the 2013 ones or the new SDHC/microSD ones then you will not get far, in fact I would advise against even trying with one of those.

There is no reason running it from the slot1 and then swapping the carts wouldn't work. That's how these things are designed to be used.

The post was a bit unclear, does the "secure area ok" message come up before the error or was that something you got later on?

The secure message OK message is what it got by loading the wooddumper_slot2.nds file and then swapping out that card with the DS game.

I haven't used Wood Dumper but maybe you have to press a button to start the actual dumping after that message appears? Just a guess.
Tried that didn't work. I also tried NDS_Backup_Tool_Slot2.nds with it patched and after following the directions, nothing happened. Wifi is not an option because my router is WPA2 encrypted.

What game are you trying to dump? Might be a problem with that particular game.
Super Mario 64 DS; There are roms out there, but the game is not able to recognize my save data. I'm using NDS Adapter Plus to backup my saved games and that worked including Super Mario 64 DS. The save file type is NDS EEPROM Files (.sav). Is there any rom that will recognize the .sav file?

I'm also having similar problems. was wondering what or how im messing up, and/or on what step.

-supercard dstwo: firmware DSTWO_v1.11_2012_1212_eng
-EZ flash iv [4] (not sure the new one with the SDHC micro SD card and the preinstalled firmware kernel 1.76)
-old fat ds
-(I do have an M3i0 sakura, but haven't tried it on that because GBA backup tool is not supported and Rudolph does not make software for M3 anymore)

I followed the guide, and used the EZ4 dldi patch, and then dldino patch to stop auto patching, the first time I didn't do any patching and had the "no slot 2 device error" and after I patched what the guide told me every time I tried loading the NDS backup tool it said "initializing slot 2 device" and just hangs there. the NDS backup folder and NDS save folder are on the EZ4 sd card but I cant even get the program to run after I used the patch. I put the NDS backup file in the root of the dstwo like the guide says. is there a problem with the SDHC micro SD version of the EZ4, a problem with the firmware on the EZ4, are my steps, or folders wrong, did I not use the right EZ4 dldi patch, is there a different dldi patch for the SDHC micro SD EZ4, or is there some other reason I cannot get the NDS slot 2 backup tool to work. I have heard there were other problems with the EZ4 Micro SDHC version but I have had no trouble with it besides some games don't play unless they are placed on the NOR flash partition which is easier because I don't have to wait for roms to load when I play them (I only play 1 or 2 games at a time so no difference to me space wise) I haven't tried using homebrew other than this on the EZ4, and the only reason I have the dstwo is because the GBA backup tool does not save eeprom saves (or sram cant remember) I don't want to get another cart just to backup my NDS games too but I will if I have to (any recommendations on slot-2 cards that will backup NDS saves with my setup and a microSD (preferably SDHC) out there if I do have to that is)

here is the guide I used, if it helps.

please tell me what I am doing wrong (if any) and any advice or tips would be greatly appreaciated. thanks.
