Hacking Generic R4 Help

So my sister bought an R4 recently and wanted my help. Unfortunately, I haven't got a clue as I haven't used one in years. I have a sneaky feeling that the one my sister purchased is a fake one. Anyway, I tried to put a firmware in there but I get an error saying it can't access _dsmenu.dat.

you posted pictures, but can't see the website printed on the card

you are supposed to go to the website printed on the card and get the firmware from there.
the website you posted is the store that sold her the card..

if the website is offline or not available you can use https://archive.org/web/web.php
this website provides old copies of websites, and usually you can get files from there

Yeah, I know that the card is where it was bought from. The email stated saying that once the R4 has been received, then a firmware has to be downloaded from there.

When I go onto that link my anti-virus blocks me from accessing that website.

ok, all you have to do is go in that website, download page, click the card that is yours and then download the kernel file from them
its a zip. or rar file, you have to extract it into the micro sd on the card


if that doesn't work, you may want to format the card with panasonic formatter here https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/index.html
choose options: format size adjustement on, and format type full overwrite

and by any change are you using a card bigger than 32gb? because its the maximum they support...

if av still blocks it, you will need to temporary disable it.. its safe.. the AV's are sometimes racist because its a chinese weird website
but it has no problem that i can see...

Is there a specific folder I put these games in? And I assume this will work for 3DS games and not just regular DS gmes.

you assume wrong, only DS games. even if you use it on a 3ds..

you put the games wherever you want, create a folder for them with the name you want
