OK, so a while ago, I wanted to hack my vWii and I followed Truth's tutorial here :

https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-install-cios-on-vwii-backup-nand-and-keys.339890/

The game I had to allow the hack, was Lego infdiana Jones.
After performing the hack, seemingly with no problems, I used Wiiflow to test some backups from an NTFS usb drive (ntfs, cool!) and they worked, but not 100% of the time. Sometimes it would just hang in a black screen... I thought maybe NTFS mode being so cool wasnt working properly and formated to WBFS and loaded the games this way. I must say this worked better, I think 100% of the time they loaded OK.

And now come the problems, when I wanted to try some emulators and I take the SD to PC to load it. So I try to copy over the stock NAND backup file and it is unreadable, can't be copied over.

PAUSE and question here. Am I screwed? Is there no way ever to return the vWii to stock state? os is a stock nand image rebuildable if you have the keys or anything else?

Anyway, moving on, I loaded a Gameboy and a SNES emulator along with a couple of game roms for each. I install the channels and trying to load the emulators results in black screen and Wii hangs. I can't do anything not even shut it down without pulling the power cable...

So I thought maybe this "corrupted" SD is causing problems, and I went on and bought a brand new 2Gb SD Transchend that has great reviews on compatibility with Wii. Loaded the same stuff in it, but still the same problem...

So my questions are
1) As I asked before about the stock nand, is the information lost forever or can I rebuild it somehow?
2) Why I get the black screen hand in the emulators?
3) The problems in WiiFlow were caused because NTFS mode is not very stable or maybe they have to do with the emulator problems? As it performed the same thing basicaly, black screen and hang

Most homebrew does not support ntfs format at all, im preeety sure no emulator does, if you want the drive to work with everything homebrew related it must be fat32.

wiiflow doesnt emulate games, it just uses homebrew emulators in the background so yeah those emulators do not aceopt ntfs format drive.

the only thing that works with that format is playing wii games with wiiflow any other emulator and anything else besides wii isos wont work.

thanks for the reply Pedro. however ntfs is not currently the problem. I stopped using it and the emulators are installed from the SD card that is FAT. I read that the emulators can only load roms from the SD card and thats where I got them. However the emulator does not even load to get to the point of choosing rom...

the emulators are :
vbagx and snes9xgx
and i installed the channel versions so I dont run them through homebrew channel.

The problem is not if the roms are in the SD or anywhere, the problem currently is that they dont even get to a menu or something, the black screen when ran, can we focus on that for the time being?

those are not the emulators, those are shortcuts, so you still need to have them on the sd under apps with all their files boot.dol and such.

thanks a LOOOOT!
I was so stupid, didn't realise that I had only installed the channel and not the emulator itself!

I installed snes9xgx 4.3.2 and it works fine.
One problem though, the channel stil hangs in a black screen, it only works through the homebrew channel. I uninstalled the channel and re-installed it after having the real emulator files in the SD in case it mattered, but same behaviour.
I don't mind if I can do my job through the HBC, but it would be nice if I can fix this too!

you need a channel thatmaches the emulator version you need the most updated files from the wiibrew page.

I can't get the damn channels to work.
Based on your suggestion I tried a different installer (initially THE SNES channel installer was version 1.2 that didnt work), version 1.1 I found in Emutopia where I also got the emulator (so I figured they would be compatible). But this time when I load the installer through HBC it hangs in the installer menu (wii remote shits down and cant do anything)

Could you point to the right installer for Snes9XGX version 4.3.2?

you should just use emulators from the homebrew channel directly imo its much simpler than messing with channels imo, back in the day emulators were on google code and had the verisons with the channels right next to them but now on github i have no idea where to get those files.

no idea maybe some of those sd card/usb recovers or such but they arent free the good ones.

I think the saved NAND file is a lost cause now. Those recover programs never recover 100% of the data so they are usefull only for stuff like photos ets that you might not mind a little corruption. In this situation even if 1% of the information is not available, it is no good.

So what I am asking, is if maybe the NAND file can be rebuilt in some other way. Maybe it is the same in all Wiis and the stuff that differs is retreivable from the hacked nand? Or maybe that file "keys.bin" that is also saved in the SD card might contain the only thing different in each Wii and you can rebuild the nand with those keys?

Is there someone that can enlighten me on this?

Your channel issue is that you're installing the old Wii versions. You need to find the ones marked specifically as being built for vWii.

thanks!
I did find some forwarders for vWii and indeed they worked!

May I ask, as far as emulators and games are concerned, if I want to use the same USB source, can it be partitioned with a FAT partition for the emulators and a WBFS one for the wii games? Is there a more convenient way?

Get a full fat32 drive, make a wbfs folder on teh fat32 drive and put the wbfs files there
If they are over 4gb split them and they work splitted on the wii/wiiu i use a program called
Iso to WBFS

no need for a wbfs formated drive anymore that is stoneage hacking :P

ok, good idea. And finally, what is the best loader for wbfs games currently?
When I had a softmodded wii back in 2010 I used usbloaderGX. Now I see many use Wiiflow. What is the most stable/good interface these days?
