If it's the main system (sysNand) nagging you, you can remove the downloaded update by entering Recovery Mode. Then, it won't nag you until it downloads the update again. Enter Recovery Mode by holding L+R+A+Up (dpad) and powering on the system, then once you're at the menu asking you to update, just turn the system off and back on.

Prevent it from getting the update in the future by making sure the wireless switch is off, or not putting it to sleep while in sysNand.

If it's emuNand giving you the nag (can't remember if Pasta does emuNand or not, I haven't messed with it yet), there isn't a convenient way to remove it. Keep a backup of your emuNand handy just in case anything happens. Also, if you haven't already, make sure to get a backup of your sysNand, so that if it does get updated, you can still revert using a hardware mod so you're not completely locked out.

That's much for the help!
I was under the impression I need wifi on for Ninjhax to boot to pasta.
I don't really know what emuNand is yet. Pasta uses sysNand. as far as I know...
How would I go about making a backup of my sysNand in pasta? if I can?

I don't think Ninjhax needs wifi once you have installed the save to CN the first time, but I could be wrong. I have an Old 3DS, so I used the Browser exploit, then downgraded, and now use the MSET exploit.

I don't know if there's a Pasta-specific way to do it, but I believe you can use Ninjhax to run the Gateway launcher (available through their site), which has an option for backing up sysNand, and doesn't require a Gateway card to do it.

emuNand would be running a separate copy of your internal memory from the SD card, but it looks like Pasta doesn't do that, it just patches sysNand and runs it. I haven't been following the CFW stuff much, my 3DS broke on me and I'm waiting for a replacement part, which is apparently going to take nearly a month to arrive. So I can't really experiment right now, sadly.

I've downgraded my system from 9.2 to 4.5 using the Gateway exploit, and I've enabled the MSET exploit on my system. Where do I go from here to have a CIA installer installed?

Using rxTools? I believe you extract a copy of your emuNand, use a program to install .cia files into it, and then put it back on the card, but I'm not sure. If you do that with Big Blue Menu / DevMenu / FBI / etc, then you can use it to install other .cia files without having to go through that process. I haven't used rxTools myself, so I'm not too familiar with the process or even what the names of any such utilities would be. (Maybe FunkyCIA can do it? I know it can extract .cia files from content installed into a nand copy...)

With a Gateway, you can just use a .3ds version of BBM/DevMenu to do your installing.

How can i tell, if my sysNand and emuNand are linked?

I have an old 3ds 4.5 with emuNand 9.7. Titles instaled on emuNand can be seen in sysNand and if i launch them, i get the gift wrap glitch (but only sometimes and only once per launch of the said title). Also my interenet settings on sysNand and emuNand aren't same.

I presume, they are linked, right?

I find it hard to call myself a noob, as I've been around the block a few times, but has anyone worked out a way to build .cia files with working download play? I've tried a handful of tools, and so far have been sorta out of luck in getting a working copy of the games I'm trying to do (mario party Island tour being one of them, and needless to say, that's a game where download play is particularly helpful). I'm currently running the modified build of rxTools, updated to 9.8 emunand.

I have a 9.0 3ds, so my emunand is also 9.0. How can I update it to 9.5 (N3DS XL)?
Use 3DNUS to download the files, then install the them with a CIA installer such as FBI. Make a backup of your emunand with the emunand tool first, just in case something goes wrong.

Steps:

In 3DNUS, enter 9.5.0-23 into the title ID field, and USA, JAP, or EUR into version field, depending on your N3DS region. Select "new 3ds" radio button. Leave "change version numbers to" unticked. Make sure "pack as cia" is ticked.

Once the files are downloaded, a folder will appear in the 3DNUS directory called 9.5.0-23. Copy this onto your N3DS micro sd.

Download the .3ds version of FBI to your gateway micro sd, and run it from emunand. Navigate to the 9.5.0-23 directory and select option to install all cias in that directory. Once it is finished, close FBI and turn off N3DS. Turn back on and go back to emunand. You will now have 9.5.0-23 firmware in emunand (you can confirm this in system settings but remember it will go back to sysnand when you leave system settings).

I've downgraded my system from 9.2 to 4.5 using the Gateway exploit, and I've enabled the MSET exploit on my system. Where do I go from here to have a CIA installer installed?
Have you installed emunand yet? Follow the gateway manual to setup emunand, then download the .3ds version of FBI to your gateway micro sd, and use it to install the CIA version from your 3ds sd onto emunand.

Hi, I have an o3dsxl on 4.5 sysnand and 8.1 emunand, I'm trying to update my emunand to 9.5 because the rom loader on gateway for 9.8, i have tried it with the 3.2.2 beta and its still broken for me. I have done all the steps you listed but when i try to install the cia using devmenu, a bunch install and the i get stuck on a few saying "import failed, already exist" and when i try on fbi, it wont even start installing any cia due to some error. would you happen to know any solution?

Ok so some n00b questions.:P
1: Sky3ds, I've read that powersaves does and doesn't support it. Can I get a definite answer before buying a powersave?
2: If I dump a private header, will it work for all my ROMS or do I have to dump it for each different game?
3: Browser downgrading on versions higher than 9.5. Will it ever be possible once ninjahax 2.0 is released or is that yet to be determined?
4: What is the typical policy for GameStop and trading a 3ds for another? I kinda want to do so so I can run homebrew again since I upgraded to keep myself from cheating, but I have regretted it ever since since no homebrew or RAM dumping.:(

What tool did you use? I know Katsu's 3ds to cia converter supports download play.

It's normal for it to say "import failed, already exist" for any titles already on there (3DNUS downloads everything, not knowing what will be required). I haven't tried 3DNUS on FBI before, but recommended it due to it being freely available. You could try bigbluemenu or similar (I cannot link to this).

I think GameStop has 7 day change of mind policy. If it's beyond the 7 days, I guess your only option would be to sell it and buy another.

If you have an Old 3DS, you should be able to run emuNand 9.8 without issue. Make sure you've put the 3.2.2 Launcher.dat onto your system SD card. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause it to not work.

If it's still not working for some reason, and you still want to go the CIA route, you might be using the wrong version of DevMenu. I believe 3.x refuses to overwrite things but 2.x will do it. But I am not 100% sure on this, I haven't messed with system CIAs.

1) Not owning a Sky3DS, I don't have a definite answer on this one, sorry.
2) One private header is all you need, you can apply it to all your games. As long as that Card ID is not being used by two people at the same time, you are safe.
3) If there's an exploit to allow unsigned code, you should be able to downgrade. It's possible that there would be a change that would cause DevMenu or other CIA installers to not work correctly, but it seems unlikely that once unsigned code is running, Nintendo would be able to stop a program from doing whatever it wanted. I haven't been following Ninjhax closely, so I'm not sure what developments they've been having.
4) As a former Gamestop employee: If you bought a used system, you have 7 days to return it for full refund, for whatever reason. Beyond 7 days, they can buy it back, but you won't get full price for it. You can then buy another system. There isn't a direct "trade system straight across for another", but the 7 days refund is pretty much that. (It's how they'd ring it up, anyway.) They might ask why you're returning it, but you technically don't have to answer. Personally, I'd give 'em something entertaining, like telling them it's cursed by evil spirits or something. Or boring, like "I want it in a different color".

Newbie here,
I have my New N3DS XL arriving tomorrow (Should have 9.0 firmware), ordered my Gateway and microSD cards today. (I bought two Sandisk MicroSDHC 32GB Class 10 cards)
and also a copy of Cubic Ninja.

My question is, is this all I need to get setup into running ROMs? Does the gateway now support Multi-rom on one SD card? Or should I have bought a smaller SD card for the Gateway?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes, that's all you need.
2. Yes, multirom is supported.
3. Depends if you want to run games off gateway micro sd (*.3ds/*.3dz files), or install games onto the n3ds micro sd like eshop titles (CIA). Each has their own advantages and disadvantages:

*3ds files are easier to set up, just copy straight onto the gateway micro sd. (CIA files have to be installed).
*CIA files are easier to play once installed - you simply access them on the home menu like any eshop title (3ds files have to be mounted first)
*The gateway card doesn't have to stay in the system to play CIA files (there are potential heat issues leaving the gateway card in the system when it is in sleep mode as the gateway card doesn't "go to sleep" with the 3ds).

I recommend CIA if you are up for it. This way you can install them to the home menu and remove the gateway card once you are in gateway mode.

Thanks for your reply! So if I went the CIA route, I'd need separate microSD cards for each game? Or can I install the CIA'd game, then use the microSD to CIA install another game?

I ideally just want to play 3 games for now, with online features enabled, and that's pretty much it, so if I can do that with CIA then I'll go that way, pending if I need separate microSD cards or not.

CIA files install just like eShop titles. As long as you have room on your system's SD card, you can install as many as you like, each one having an icon on the Home Screen. Once installed, the .CIA files themselves don't need to stay on the system SD card. You can put a set of CIA files on the card, install them all at once, and you're done, though I'd recommend removing the .CIA files after installation to clear space.

You really only need one microSD card for the Gateway Red Card and one microSD card for the system. (The system comes with one, but I believe it's fairly small, which makes it a great candidate for the Blue Card that comes with the Gateway package, for NDS games and the MSET exploit.) .3ds files go on the Red Card, .cia files go on the System card and install to that card. The main choice in whether to go with .3ds or .cia is really which card you want to put it on. Other minor issues include .3ds games needing to be closed in order for your save file to be written out, and the need to apply a private header to .3ds files to go online (which you can obtain from your copy of Cubic Ninja or any other retail game without any extra hardware), and a bit of battery drain from using the Gateway card. That's really about it for differences.
