As always, this is some amazing work you have right here! It was somewhat a weird, crazy ride on this thread, but, overall, I guess it was entertaining to see the places this thread went to (good or bad). Anyway, can't wait for the day this will be released. :)

Even if my 3ds got stolen I'm really respectful of your work (applause)

Yeah, we are not just "patching sig checks". I can happily say right now that our ARM9 "launcher"-side stuff is super freaking cool, has some really nice toys and is pretty much feature complete.

I have not follow this thead for a long time. But will karl have old 3ds support? If so will it be a 4.5 or a 9.2 mset version?

kindly written up about by @yifan_lu despite the constant warnings of piracy which #3dsdev had told him over and over again (and, for better or for worst, they were right).

there are a few things you must bear in mind:

- it was #3dsdev that built the very first "cfw" which initially enabled piracy without having to purchase a hardware dongle

- you KARL guys clearly demonstrated that your intentions are anything but first working on understanding the vulnerabilities involved in order to achieve stable arm11/arm9 exploitation, unlike other "solutions" that you claimed was greatly based on your own work in oh so many places (which is just plain wrong)

- removing signature checks must be considered just one way of achieving native code execution and this whole discussion about whether it is ok to do so or not is pure hypocrisy. boys, it's been done already by the GW mafia and if people want to pirate, they simply gonna buy their crappy dongle. availability of an open, software-only only "solution" doesn't make it worse for nintendo! the contrary is the case since the availability of an exploit that opens all doors simply takes away money from the real pirates (GW), which, in the end will hopefully drain them out.

can we please, please stop this entire attention whoring and teasing crap and try to start growing up? we could start by shutting the fuck up or helping each others or simply share your code if you think you've really got something to say. otherwise, you'll do nothing but contribute to this forum's (which has sponsors in what industry, again?) revenues by driving up the number of clickety clicks.

It's almost as if they don't want their favorite developers to stop developing games for Nintendo's consoles because of all the pirating (See: PSVita)
They don't want to release a non finished product, and of course I'd rather have more features at launch than have a few features and wait a while for a little more. Pasta has already opened the pirating stuff, and there's several other solutions for emunand and hacks. Why would they want to be the people they despise? Attacking someone for their beliefs is more childish than hiding a feature in order to protect a snowball of things. (Results can be good or bad, but just because they aren't comfortable with the risks, why should you pester about it and make them even more insecure?) There's a reason for everything, and if you don't have anything nice to say about it, then please don't bother wasting everyone's time. This is literally the reason why they are staying away from the toxic community of GBAtemp (Hmm... Reminds me of @StapleButter , you know, our most respected 3DS emulator dev apart from @shinyquagsire23? Yeah. Same situation.) Please go do what you want without bothering supporters of KARL because the more people will complain, the more they will laugh at you.

you could start by reading my post again, then think about and try to understand it.

To be perfectly honest, I don't believe piracy is the way to go here, but I'm more than willing to accept it as an inevitability when opening up a console to unrestricted code execution. Ideally, like in the advent of NinjHax, Usermode is plenty. But, due to process restrictions on core usage and memory execution settings, it's not enough control for demanding homebrew, like full SNES, or potentially PS1 emulation. The ups and downs are present everywhere, and we all have to make our choices on how to deal with them.

These developers released very valuable source code to the community, and they contributed lots of important information on the 3DS hardware and software to the community as well. We all must respect their decisions to not release anything that would allow piracy. It is their decision, and their dedicated work.

When you paint your house, you do it for you. You might invite your friends in sometimes, but you don't give them the keys to the front door. It's was their choice, and ambition, to build themselves a house instead of a community center. Pasta took that job. If you want a gym membership though, there's a good gym across the road, called Gateway3DS, and they usually have all the latest equipment, but there's a membership fee.

There's something for everyone here, either respect it, or leave. If you can't respect it, and won't leave, then it's you're call. But you'll only make yourself, and everyone around you, miserable.

I respect the wishes of all the various teams here, regardless of their interests or goals. They've all devoted their time to making something they wanted to make, regardless of their agendas. Anyone who can't at least acknowledge that it is their right to decide on how they wish to handle their own projects is simply dragging the GBATemp name even deeper through the bubbling, maggot-filled swamp we've created for it. It's our choice to wallow in the mud, or pull ourselves out, as individuals, and as a community.

I won't tell you to take my side, but I will sit on my side of the shore, and hope others join me some day.

Thank you for what you've released, and didn't, Team KARL. I hope to see a fully-fledged CFW from you guys some day.

Absolutely beautiful. This is exactly how I feel, and I hope people will understand that what happens is all the Dev's choice, and we are not to complain.

you didn't get my point either. but if it was your way, i hope thhe KARL "team" is gonna charge a fee for their software-only "cfw". you get what you deserve, i guess?

i always find these kinda views ironic, if you take the money out of something the more dedicated teams who actually find the exploits and show people how to use them, lets just say if someone would of immediately cracked GW the day it was released for 4.x do you really think the money guys would of poured more money back into hacking the system more, and once the 3DS is finished if every time the guys with the cash had their money making scheme scuppered, do you think they would invest in finding hacks for newer systems?

hacking games consoles is becoming out of the realms for the common folks now days, its getting more complex and as such more dependent on teams who have the financial backing, so basically if you take the stance of "we should just take what these teams offer and make free r0m loaders"....sure you win in the short term, but once those teams realize that there is no money to be made by hacking systems they would go onto something that they can make money from and all the resentful people who think everything should be free will be left waiting for some hack that they will probably never see, pretty much every development has been built off the back of the solutions GW put out there, without them it would be as stale as the wiiu scene

To be honest, assuming the quality of the software was top notch, and had the features I wanted, I wouldn't be opposed to paying a fee. I've already donated to various 3DS developers upwards of $100.00, I'm hardly worried about a small fee for using the software.

One small correction for Psi-hate though. The PS Vita was ruined by the lack of strong initial first-party support, incorrect intentions for game-design (trying to make home console games for a handheld), extremely high overhead for development studios with plenty of risk, and few incentives, and these all combined to push away third party developers. Piracy hasn't ever touched the PS Vita library, Sony killed it with their own two hands. Only PSP-mode was ever hacked, and it does not allow PS Vita-mode Piracy of any kind, only PSP-mode. All WebKit exploits are usermode and sandboxed at this time, and there's little details on Yifanlu's PSM exploit. There is no homebrew SDK available, and no public leaks of the official SDK. All in all, the PS Vita is still effectively closed shut. Its demise was its own, no hack brought it to that point.

yeah! on a second thought, i think you guys are absolutely right! let's continue giving money to the GW mafia!
obviously there would be lots of people who think of the me,me,me,now,now,now......and nothing anyone says would change those people minds, they will just rationalize anything in their favor, but there is no denying that 90% of the 3DS scenes advancements have come from gateway one way or the other......its like solders hiding behind a tank and then crying constantly about how the tank is getting all the praise and glory.....nobody is stopping anyone pushing ahead and doing their own thing, but if you do, don't expect the tank to be there to help when you hit a brick wall

I find it hilarious that people still think that the Gateway team are some form of mafia :rofl2:
The devs of KARL have done more than just show off pictures/videos/telegrams etc.
irrc someone on the team (cannot recall the name) was updating the 3dbrew with their findings, which would help people in the future as more has been posted and noted on there.

yeah its the same people who probably believe the "if you buy pirate DVD's your helping terrorist!!!".....no most of the time your helping some teenager who's still in school buy a new pair of shoes, or a new bag, ....but i guess that doesnt have the same ring to it.

its just the big corporations trying to demonize people who do stuff that's not in their favor.

people just lunge themselves at the free method that is developed, whilst bashing the very people who are the reason we got so far with the 3ds scene.

For the record I'd rather there be a paywall for broken sig checks on the latest firmware than no wall at all. Our stance is firm on not releasing anything with sig checks broken still. I'll repeat what I said before, but if you want your own CFW with sig checks broken and all that jazz, go and make your own rather than begging for our code to just be "shared". You might see our refusal of sig checks as immature, but perhaps we don't feel like damaging Nintendo's N3DS platform any further. I'm glad there's no way past the new encryption added in 9.6, because it means at least past there, people can't just run around decrypting and re-encrypting crap for piracy.

Thanks for the corrections! Learned quite a bit. :)
