From there I use the gspwn exploit to takeover home menu by overwriting a target object located on its linear heap with specially crafted data. With a fake vtable and a nice stack pivot I'm able to get ROP under home menu, and from there I ROP my wait into calling NSS:Reboot to bypass the region check."

Can I use Sky3DS rom replace for Cubic Ninja ?

Pressing button is the same as switching out cartridge, only you need to know what game it mounts, just test it.

I think following options are possible with Sky3DS:

The options to use it with sky3ds are:
- Have Cubic Ninja on your Sky3DS and the out of region game right after Cubic Ninja
(pressing button will switch the game, so it looks like you switch cartridge, If your out of region game is not right after Cubic Ninja, it will not work, cause you have to press the button more, so it looks like you switch cartridge more then once before getting the right game)

- Have Cubic Ninja on Sky3DS and a real copy of your out of region game
- Have Cubic Ninja as retail cartridge and the out of region game on your Sky3DS ALREADY selected (so if you pop in Sky3DS it is already the correct out of region game on it, play ready)

regionFOUR is a region free loader for New3DS/New3DSXL/3DS/3DSXL/2DS which currently works on on firmware versions 9.2 and 9.7 this also allows you to bypass mandatory gamecard firmware updates. It currently requires that you own a copy of Cubic Ninja from your region in order to run.

The exploits used for anything Gateway would want were patched. This is reuse of Ninjhax code to run an extremely minimal homebrew that has the power to reboot the system into a title in such a means that the region check doesn't occur.

RegionThree worked for forced updates too, RegionFour should work as well...

Speaking of that, I know it's unrelated but would this kind of thing allow fw spoofing for eShop? Or we still will need a kernel exploit for this?

look again. the number after the dash actually doesn't matter at all for this, so no worries.

O3ds 9.6 here, will you had support for firmware between 9.2 and 9.7? i didnt wanted to update..

I don't think fw spoofing can withstand nim without patching it.

If you are already on 9.6! Why stay on 9.6? i think there is no advantage if you are on 9.6 and to stay on 9.6
I got my 9.6 updated to 9.7 so i could download my eshop updates and games before Nintendo brings out 9.8 (or higher)
