it's fun when I hear don't force us to make nothing, we owe nothing to you. It's not a matter that you must do something, it's just than I'm pretty sure than most people that nowadays says that they are against piracy, most of them have used backup loaders in other systems. I'm really pretty sure, but I obviously don't have proofs anyways of what people does so they can come and say that they only softmodded their wii to play a homebrew app and never pirated anything: a movie, a song,...

Then when people who have pirated things come here and talk like moral guardians or something similar, they shouldn't have taken profit of what other people shared. But anyway, you're free of course of getting what other people shares and don't share anything at all. But at the same time we can give our opinions, and in other aspects or life make the same: You don't know something so got away and don't ask anything. I'm not going to invest time in something very different from I want to do in my life because I don't have it, so I don't really give a fuck for that kind of semi gods of devs.

We all can give opinoins but shouldnt ask the ones who made the exploit for a backup loader.

I've been coming to this forum for years, but only today I created an account to reply here.

I just wanted to share with you my experience before telling you my opinion about piracy.

Nintendo was and still is my favorite console company since childhood, Wii U is the first console that I bought with my own money (took me 2 months income of last summer, since I also bought 2 extra wiimotes and other games), the main motivation I bought it for was MK8, however I got to play it about 3 times and that's it, the disk won't work anymore (and no I had no children nor little bros/sisters...).
Before this I was never interested in hacking the Wii U, I really just wanted to play my favorite nintendo games and of course buying them. But after this incident, I really can't just buy another Mario kart 8 game, it's too expensive, nor that I feel secure about buying other games since damaging the disk means basically you lost around 50 euro without a possibility to backup (especially in my case I still have no idea how my disk got damaged).
So I just got a bit upset and sold the Wii U few months ago.

Now here's my personal opinion :
Anyway piracy itself, without a doubt, is wrong ethically. I respect what other people said about this before, but I believe if the company isn't harmed by the possibility of piracy, they wouldn't make so much security against it.
The other thing I know from experience is, majority of people that buy games will always buy them, I met many people that refuse to hack their console (psp, wii, nds...) even if it was very easily possible for them, and also there are others that are just too young or too busy, or too 'unqualified' to do it anyway. And there are many that have no idea such thing is possible.

However now if you ask me, I would buy the Wii U again only if it was fully hacked like the Wii,one of the main reasons is because I really want to have the choice to load backups.
So this is why I constantly check updates here in gbatemp, once we have the freedom to use the console in it's maximum capacity, I will buy it asap, I believe many interesting things can be done with Wii U.

I learned many things already just by reading from the hacking discussion thread, I respect all the efforts done by Marionumber1 and NWplayer123 and Hykem, I check their posts almost daily, sometimes multiple times a day. Those are the guys that gave me the hope about the Wii U.

How did your disk break? If the Wii U somehow damaged it, it should still be under warranty, if you did something and you don't have anyone else in the house, it kind of sounds like that was you being a clutz :/

Great idea. But then i think it should be a 1:1 backup loader you know?

I totally agree. I think I've even said this same thing back further in the thread. Maybe something that will rip the disk directly and verify it, then check off something in the ELF that would be tamper proof to ensure that you have it

I just like having exploited/modified hardware and code. It's cool.

As for the Piracy side of things, if Nintendo wasn't so pricey, I wouldn't pirate. I recently paid £49.99 for Mario Kart 8, which came out just about a year ago now. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Steam but that's crazy money.

Even with my Vita, I recently caved and just started buying the PSP games I was transferring over. It's not like the PSP days anymore when there's tons of custom themes and hacks to drool over, homebrew nowadays is just a few buggy SNES emulators and Minecraft clones.

TL;DR Nintendo gib sales plz

They do, frequently, they're just always on the eShop

Captain Toad is $27 on the eShop right now

I have a problem with Nintendo's digital downloads, to be perfectly blunt. The fact that they are locked to a console, and not the actual account, make for trouble. Here's the reason why, let's say your console gets stolen, damaged and/or just simply becomes inoperative and is out of warranty. You either have to get it repaired (which ain't cheap), and the game you purchased is gone, getting back on the console would be very difficult, if not impossible, right? They really should do it how Steam does digital purchases and tie it to the account and not the console itself. In this regard do I find physical discs superior and more reliable ;)

Once again, I totally agree. When I heard that you could store content on a hard drive, I thought that meant that you could use that content on any Wii U you wanted after it was purchased. Lawlnope

And to me, that's a big deterrent to using Nintendo's eShop, save for the occasional Virtual Console download, as I've gotten mine with nice discounts, but there really should be a unified system account of some kind. Nintendo has only merely "considered" doing so, but have done nothing. No wonder people like me pirate, due to how shoddily the account system works. :P

most of what i read in this thread are just thin excuses for piracy. i pirate anything i can get my hands on. movies. music. games. whatever BUT i wont hide behind a thin excuse to justify it. i just like free stuff.

my original xbox was chipped, my xbox 360 had custom firmware, my ps3 had custom firmware and all of those consoles did just fine.
hell iv been copying games since the days of ripping tape to tape on the zx spectrum lol

also a lot of people on this website seem fine with hacking their Vwii and prating wii games but then have a problem with piracy on the wii u........ the wii u failed long before piracy was even a possibility so why worry about it. the wii u did not shift many consoles. a tiny fraction of that number will pirate games if and when a back up loader is made.

TL;DR piracy will not matter on the wii u so somebody make a loader lol

this post contains my opinion only. if you do not like it feel free to not like it.

I didn't do anything to it, I had 4 other disks, none of them got damaged from the Wii U, I did suspect that, but the company wouldn't really change u a disk when they see a scratch in it.
And I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to it, I've been dealing with disks since I was a little kid, I never damaged a disk myself. by the way, I don't know what 'clutz' mean ^^' but I could kind of understand it from the context :D.

lol clutz means clumsy/accident prone

Now that Howebrew for WiiU is almost ready, when do you think a WiiU emulator for PC will be available? 2, or 3 years? More?

It will always be a little awkward to emulate though, thanks to the Wii U Gamepad. That's why I don't bother with DS emulation without an actual console to play it on. Thankfully, I have a 3DS, so I don't need to worry about that.

Yeah, but how many games actually use the gamepad in a meaningful way? (Excluding Kirby and the Rainbow Curse). Most games would be fine on PC, honestly

fair enough. But it still lacks something. Guess emu's will always lack that special something.

It's also much more convenient to have stuff like the HUD and items on the gamepad... Ahh well, I don't really want to emu any of the current WiiU games tbh, and I have the legit console anyways lol

There is no situation in which having the original console is the worse option
