I find it interesting how there are many people here who are technically competent enough to maybe not actually write these exploits, but at least understand the concepts behind them, such as keyslots and what 9.6.0 did that makes things difficult. Usually, this kind of forum is mostly filled with idiots, and I'm glad that this one isn't =^-^=

It sounds like news has gotten around about there being a flaw in the way in which 9.6.0's Process9 is encrypted. I discovered this myself independently...then found out that the KARL3DS team and yellows8 already had. I suppose that we think alike, since we all saw the same mistake Nintendo made. Not that it matters a whole lot, since it's really the keyXes for keyslots 0x19-0x1F that matter, and Nintendo doesn't appear to have screwed those up.

We're making an effort to not talk about it so the hole will stay open, and I suggest you should too. End users don't have anything to gain from personally knowing that bug.
yeah i dont like it when people announce bugs just to be like FIRST! for example smea kept his mouth shut about ssspwn from 6.x all the way till release at 9.x.....2 small revisions later and its patched, just like all the "OMG LOL NINTENDO FAIL" regarding the broken 9.5 encryption with people directly tweeting nintendo for some e-fame before anyone had even done anything with it......guess people like burning bridges just so they can say they found them

PS i guess you can use pretty much the same principle as the GW downgrader to install the older MSET application.....but i guess you guys have that covered already

You notice some members wanted to be beta testers KARL, you already know whats up.

And many others complained about gbatemp for that reason

Well, I wouldn't say this forum is devoid of them; having followed this from the beginning, I've come to understand why this particular scene has done so poorly. But there does seem to be a reasonable amount of reasonably useful users hanging around on this thread, which is encouraging. I'll admit that I'm fairly new to the 3ds scene, and as such, am still not overly well versed on most of the specifics. But, I am a QA tester by trade, so much of the discussion going on in this thread has been easy for me to understand and follow, even if I've not really taken part.

Using the principles the GW downgrader uses to do anything but downgrade to a significantly older sw version is generally the hamfisted and wrong way of doing something.

Yeah, this thread has really mellowed out since Gateway released their new3DS support, it's a much less painful experience catching up on progress.

Only true believers are still in this thread ;)

It's not just that. We waited so long for gateway, and got frustrated and panicked and found some twisted hope that this would be released even before GW.

I appriciate this project, and hope it reaches it's goals, and provides a stable and strong CFW for us to use in the future, but until then, I will be using my GW. I cba to forever be in a state of waiting. It is too much. There is a reason that a lot of able devs and such buy things like gateway rather than make their own, since it simply makes no sense to put so much time a stress and work into a CFW; especially a private one for oneself.

GW CFW is competely open for those begging for piracy, and incredibly stable and easy to use for everyone else. 80CAD is really nothing compared to the easy and quickness of GW, compared to waiting for a CFW like KARL.

Don't get me wrong. I appriciate the project, and support the devs behind the scenes, but I'll be playing my GW and having fun while I wait tyvm ^_^

LOL. I've seen idiots here on gbatemp, of course. There are plenty. But there are a lower number here than many other places I've been. Also, I've seen many respectful newbies here - people who don't know what they're doing but are respectfully asking.

I'll be honnest with you, right now I use my gateway. But I await KARL since it will do everything I want.
9 times out of ten I boot in classic mode for playing my retail carts, especially stuff onlline.
the only time I go to gatteway mode is for homebrew cia, since my cubic ninja cart is on my n3ds now.

As soon KARL is out, I will do a system transfer, sell both my old 3ds and my gateway, and buy new games for my n3ds.
the best of both worlds is coming soon :)

why? why would there be an issue?

(Updating to 9.6)

Although (and don't quote me on this) it will most likely be possible to patch services to allow access to eShop and allow you to system transfer once we start really ramping up on the service modifying stuff. I have spring break coming up and I'm starting some of our in-depth ARM11 stuff which should let us do some fun stuff with the home menu and everything else.

oh right :O forgot about this.
but assuming you got 9.6 working, and gateway fixes emunand on old 3ds, I'm fine.
Anyway, it's not like things hurry.

With eshop access spoofed to lower firmwares, then what's the point of updating them (apart from game compatibility.) :p1ng:
