i thought about making this thread on EOF. but its a legitimate discussion...

nintendo decided to create a 2ds for whatever reason (some people like it other don't, this horse is dead.)
but suddenly short after they released upgraded consoles.. but there is no upgraded 2ds..

would you like to see a N2DS?

my guess is because there is already lots of confusion with the names and diferent versions, but this feels like nintendo released a console that was not needed and now they don't give a F. about it... specially if they plan to release games only for "N" consoles

do you think they maybe are planning in a totally new design to release something like a "mini (like the wii mini)" version of a N3ds ?

2DS is a budget system for children, why would they make a more expensive version? The main focus of the new 3ds is the 3D face tracking, and the 2DS doesn't even have 3D period.

i see that point. N3ds main feature is the 3d tracking,
but i am talking about the "double everything" hardware... without the upgraded hardware i feel like 2ds will be leaved on the dust...

I think a hardware enhanced, native NFC compatible, but 3d-less system may happen, but I don't think it'll be this year. The 2ds fits the tard-pak role pretty well atm. (not dissing it: I have one and I kinda like it. It's charming but I wouldn't want it to be my 'desert island' system)

I don't feel there will be a new 2DS. I have one and I love the feel for some of my games, but I bought a new 3DS XL to get away from the small screen and from several other issues, portability itself included. I still use it every now and then when I want to play my digital games.
The main reason why I think this way is because it's a budget system, and I don't see how they'll make a budget system out of the "new" line when the prices of the original 2DS haven't dropped (at least not here), but also there's the motion tracker that some people have mentioned here. It'd be cool to have extra features for the vastly underrated 2DS, but I guess it'll suffer the same fate as the new (regular) 3DS here in the US.

2DS users and N3DS users are at opposite ends of the stick. 2DS users want a cheap way to play the 3DS and DS library of games, and don't care about the 3D. N3DS users care more about the appearance of their system, what non-gaming functions it can do, and how fast/powerful it is.

The 2DS is a cheap system. Making a N2DS would be pointless. It's big feature involves 3D. But don't they have an add on or something for the 3/2DS that allows the second stick of joy?

Very empty opinion there. While I agree about the look.. I prefer the functionality and the ability to save my screens with the clam shell design. Not to mention, I don't even use 3d. The upgraded CPU is noticeable. Boot up a 3ds xl next to a n3ds and you'll see. It's not aesthetics or gimmicks that make the n3ds a viable option.

I'm speaking on behalf of most 2DS and N3DS users. I didn't mean to offend you or your personal preferences, maybe I should have clarified that.

In th age-old profit maximization tradition, the marketers could do their best to make you buy both; Nintendo could give the New 2DS a full-sized C Stick. The 3DS could just keep the smaller one.

my guess is because there is already lots of confusion with the names and diferent versions, but this feels like nintendo released a console that was not needed and now they don't give a F. about it... specially if they plan to release games only for "N" consoles
* 2DS allows them to make a far cheaper console by not offering 3D, so they compete better with other cheap entertainment items (phones, tablets) and other competitors (Sony Vita). They are all competition as far as they're concerned. Competing on price helps get people into the system and helps sell more games on the system and helps developers consider the system. It's important.
* removing 3D is also a concession to parents concerned about the 3D effect on young children. Note the disclaimers Nintendo uses about 3D and young kids. Now parents can make a worry-free purchase which is not only 'safer' but cheaper
* they did create some confusion with the 2DS name. But I think it is justified in the end. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Not enough people were interested in the 3DS (sales were initially far lower than expected). Nintendo and its shareholders want to make as much money as possible of course.
* I thnk the 2DS was needed even though initially I thought it was a confusing move. It basically shows us (in no uncertain terms) that the 3D feature is or has been a 'nice thing' but not essential

I think there will be at least one more 3DS redesign in the future.

The 2DS never got the circle pad (although nothing prevents you from moving the electronics to a custom case that fits).
With it not being compatible with SSB4 and who knows which other future games there's little to miss either!

Does the 2DS even have the IR that the CPP needs?

Not enough market share to warrant an upgrade. 2DS is a budget system, and sending more out, and working more on developing it, and building it is just not worth it.

Imagine this:
100$ 2DS
or
140$ n2DS

people looking for a budget system are looking for the cheapest available version.
