I'd say just do it. KARL3DS is going to be out soon and then you'll be able to access it with Sky3DS and have all the benefits of having a GW like emuNAND for free bar piracy, which you'll already have with the flashcart anyway. This GW thing is ulter bullshit.

will karl3ds allow eshop games to work though? Not sure I follow this. I have sky but miss eshop games that GW brings to the table.

I'm pretty sure this is going to work with sky3ds + OOT ROM as well, I'm gonna convert the save to sky3ds format tonight and give it a go, this might be helpful for other N3DS owners who have both sky3ds and gateway.

You can buy on emuNAND, transfer to sysNAND (via legit CIA), use saveDataFiler to extract the save from OOT cartridge, inject the save into the eShop game and you have an exploit !

Hmmm, when you first install emuNAND it will probably be linked to sysNAND, so if you buy and install a legit OOT from e-Shop on emuNAND, it will install it on sysNAND too, which means it should work.

2) Install exploit, create emunand and update
3) DON'T UNLINK
4) Connect to eShop, download transfer tool and OoT
5) Transfer save

I might be totally wrong on this, but hear me out. Can't you first get ahold of a OoT card to perform the exploit, install emuNAND and backup your original NAND. Then after that install a CIA to your sysNAND and push the save file to that CIA? Unless I am missing something this seems like a good method to get the hack working without card

To answer all the replies:

I thought about, for example, loaning a card from a friend to get the exploit working. I still know that back in the Wii days this was done to run the Twilight Hack and IndianaPWNS.

This is of course a risky solution, that was why I also said something about NAND backups. Installing a CIA to sysNAND is of course very risky in itself.

About the CIA, too bad that that, from what I understand at least, is not a viable option because it won't run if it isn't properly signed. Again I vaguely remember it being an option to install the game to the Wii permanently and run the exploit that way but I could be wrong, it is a long time ago.

It's not supported ? It's very easy to implement 9.5 emunand support on new 3DS (technically all is on 3dbrew) so...

It also works with gateway. And there's a DS Profile Exploit that can be installed via the browser instead of a NDS flashcard.
But you shold import it with a sysNAND > 6.1, because of the new encryption.

Sorry, but this is ridiculous. Anybody whom decides to support such practice by purchasing Gateway is an idiot. I've bought all my games legitimately, but if at some point I were to decide that I wanted to play 'backups', I'd either reverse engineer KARL3DS or buy a Sky, simply out of principle. I understand that Gateway are out to make money, but they're ripping all of you chumps off to the extreme. Don't you guys understand that the Gateway card isn't even necessary? And that in fact, if they didn't implement their shitty 'check', you could have homebrew/play backups with just OOT and Launcher.dat? This whole situation is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't buy this shit. If you want homebrew, wait for KARL3DS. If you want to play 'backups', get a Sky card. If you want an all-in-one, just wait for somebody to reverse engineer KARL3DS. Just, whatever you do, do not spend money on this shit. You're paying for a branded flash cart that literally does nothing. Literally.
