I honestly recommend staying away from Transcend. It will probably work, but I don't trust the brand -- too many dead SD cards for my taste. Just yesterday I threw out a 32gb Transcend that was basically brand new because the damn thing gave me so many problems. Now I'm stuck using an 8gb Sandisk until I can get another larger card.

Spend the extra $5 to get a nice 64gb Samsung or Sandisk. It's worth it.

Wow, really? I've always been a sandisk man myself, but I read around before posting and seen some users saying transcend was the way to go with SD cards at the moment. I suppose I'd better read around a little more.

I did not.. I meant "I think emunand would be a good idea" - would be a good idea to install and use an emunand, and "updated to 9.2" I really should have said Updated to 9.4. I was asking a questions basically..
I was asking if emunand updated to 9.4 was a good idea for this 3ds..

So basically I should dump my 9.2 nand and back it up to the PC, that way if I accidentally update sysnand to 9.4 I can use the Hardware mod and restore it to 9.2.
I assume I can make a EMUNAND using 9.2 and it would be 9.2 when done but then I would update emunand to 9.4 correct?

Once that is done I can use the gateway to play Roms from the redcard and I also use retail 3ds carts?
DO I have to reset the exploit when I play retail carts?

IF I downgrade 9.2 to 4.5 and then upgrade back to 9.2 will my game saves still go corrupt?

Correct, once emunand is created update it to 9.4 through system settings.

emunand has two modes classic and gateway. You launch into gateway mode to play roms and classic mode to play retail carts. Yes you do need to exit to sysnand to launch between the two modes currently. If you are in emunand and launch the browser exploit it will fail with the static/noisy bittom screen. When running the exploit it will automatically boot to gateway mode, to bring up the gateay menu to boot to classic mode you hold down the L trigger once the screen turns grey.

Your saves will get wiped if you launch them in 4.x and new ones will be created created.

How old is your son? My youngest is 9 and can handle it all it just takes a little training and he needs to know if he gets confused or sees the words "update" to immediately stop and bring it to you.

I too have had nothing but trouble with Transcend. Most of mine either die in the first month I have them, or simply don't work at all.

Sandisk is a perfectly good brand for SD cards but some people have been having problems with getting them working in Gateway cards (buggered if I know why).

I purchased Samsung EVO UHS-I cards for mine (Class 10, one for my N3DS and one for the Gateway itself, still waiting for that exploit). Also if you look around, you'll read mainly positive reviews for the cards... they're waterproof too which is a good thing if for some reason it gets wet. Spend the little bit extra if you can, it's worth it.

So if you drop your 3DS in the toilet at least you can reuse your SD card. :hateit:

The difference on Amazon between a generic brand and something recognizable like a Samsung/SanDisk/Kingston is a couple dollars at most, and you're going to be a lot happier with the latter. Regardless of its use, be it flash cart or storage for video/images, etc, do yourself a favor and remember that you get what you pay for.

I'll be using those 2 Samsung cards for Gateway and 3DS personally.

Nobody knows for certain. I'd say yes. More than a reasonable chance of it being out before the end of January.

As soon it's out I'm trading my 3DS XL in. Gotta get as much value as possible before prices starts slipping.

No idea what the UHS part means, but both my micro SDs are UHS-I Class 10 and work fine.

Still waiting on my Gateway, might be here tomorrow.

What happens if I try to play my retail carts in sysNAND? I know you're supposed to play retail carts in Classic mode, but let's say I get booted from GW mode while I'm out of the house and can't relaunch the exploit (can't downgrade, have too many games with 6.0+ save encryption).

Would my carts and their saves still work in linked sysNAND? What about unlinked?

Take that POS t-flash and flush it.
I would if I had another SD reader. (Those other 2 are completely dead)
My laptop has a dodgy reader. doesn't work with the Samsung microSD to SD adapters for some reason, but when I plug a different card in the same adapter it works?
No idea what the UHS part means, but both my micro SDs are UHS-I Class 10 and work fine.
It's a new BUS for SD cards that allows faster transfer of data. My UHS 1 card works in my 3DS fyi.

I believe yes.

Well, finally pulled the trigger and ordered my N3DS off amazon JP. Even without GW support at the moment, I see any reason not to trust GW when they say support is coming soon. Have they ever said they will release X then not delivered? Obviously delayed often, but I feel like they always get it done in the end.
