I'm now facing a new problem where my red gateway card isn't been recognised on 2.7 after doing the update with 3.0??

Yeah i got that problem too. I got around it by using the 3.0 launcher. I know this doesn't downgrade back to 2.7, but i don't know how to do that either

Umm yeah ?

You get emunand in gateway mode so if you fuck up something you can always reverse it. Or games that require higher version than your firmware ? etc. Basically using cia on gateway is safer than on non moded console.

Sorry for the noob question, but whats the difference between a .3ds file and .cia? I know you can install .cias to the internal SD card, but what benefit does it have?

I thank you for being a beta tester and finding problems so patient people like me can enjoy bug free versions in the future.

Are CIAs of any use with this update since you have to have the gateway card inserted for it to start Gateway Mode?

Sure, if you have a nice SD card (32gb, class 10) vs a shitty microSD card. Also I assume that there will be another entrypoint in the future (Mii Maker QR code maybe) that doesn't require a persistent online connection, but that's just assumption based on what SonyUSA/GaryOPA have said.

Damn, I didn't want to cause you any trouble. I think some others might be able to help you out. I haven't yet upgraded to 3.0 and I think I'll wait for the full release now, considering. Sorry.

Well woke up again, and I'm glad to hear the (beta) update is out, however I'm not going to install it yet - as I'm waiting for not only n3DS support but a possibility of using the exploit offline. I doubt when the packs for downgrading your sysnand becomes available - you would be able to downgrade your n3ds to 4.5 to use the offline exploit won't be possible. So, what I'm saying for new 3DS owners - I'm sorry but you'll ALWAYS be forced to use the online exploit every-time unfortunately.

i've already posted link but whatever, i'm guessing being technical they might be too difficult for newbs

think of rom like a copy of game cart
think of cia like all the stuff you get from eshop, dlc, themes, games etc.

you copy your .3ds on sd on red card and launch as if they were carts
you install cia on your console to get dlc, have games that you don't want to put on sd or install themes etc.

I can't connect to the eshop
I installed gateway, formated emunand, formated sysnand, and whenever I try to use the eshop it gives me the message about linking my nnid, tries to connect, then gives an error

Fixed it, I had to sign in on my sysnand again

Well this issue happened after updating the red card with 3.0 dont think it's reversable, anyone?

You can also decrypt saves using savedatafiler tool if you install as CIA. Useful if you want to tinker around with save hacking, but it can be risky (broken saves, etc) if you don't know what you are doing. Also, I don't think you need to bother with headers and .3dz for online support if you install as CIA.

Probably not. But if you can't manage to work out the bugs in ROM loading, then the next Gateway update should help. What I would try is just uninstalling any ROM/retail game updates you have, removing all your ROMs from your microSD, and then formatting the microSD and placing the ROMs back on, updating them after.

If you are on 4.5, you can put the 2.7 launcher on sd and hold R while pressing the DS Profile button. This will update the FPGA back to 2.7
Oh, there you go.

Its weird that my question is being ignored, is everyone on this thread a pirate? What about the people who bought a card to dump their games into cia's? Is this just not a problem for everyone else because they just download their games?

not necessarily, they can release minihttp server that launches the exploit code or smth.
