Yup, that's exactly what Feedly can do. RSS is simply wonderful for news updates. Simply subscribe to http://www.gateway-3ds.com/feed/ and every 5 minutes or so it'll check for updates.

It's an abusive relationship. It's not that easy to say goodbye. every time I think about selling it, I see the gold paint and change my mind.

A 3DS will quite happily foolishly update it self off AC. It will warn you, but it will do it anyway... At least both of my 3DS's will.

I think he means when you get to the 'connect 3ds charger' screen. Maybe sitting at that screen for long enough will update it?

That sucks then. Well, I'd expect it's enough time to force shutdown if it gets to that point.

Nope, it's up to you not to get past the "Update now?" and then the "Are you sure you want to update?" prompts. Once the update is actually running if you abort in the middle (by any means) you risk a half update which is worse and damn near a brick. I'm about to go to bed or I'd find a post for you, but there are people who's 3DS's report 4.X in the system menu but they have the MiiVerse icon on their home screen (these two things are mutually exclusive for any newbies) and they can't run a damn thing (or at best not their GW's) on their half updated 3DS's. Dig around a bit if you have time, you should be able to find some of those posts. I'm off to Sleepyland.

I was actually 195 pages late. Man someone needs to chronologically file this megathread and annex its sections of discussions.

We've been through hype, mega hype, christmas letdown, sky3DS comparisons, hype, newyear letdown, fanmade countdowns, sourced countdowns, pointing and calling each other liars, tutorials on other stuff, to how to resell and buy a new 3DS. what next? lol

2Hack is correct in that a 3DS asks you to update... TWICE before starting the update. What I was correcting is that he said it would not update unless it was connected to an external power source (eg it's AC charger). THAT is incorrect. If you say yes to both of the prompts and you are not plugged in it will still update.
