We are all most at 1000 pages wow i remember i started to follow this thread since the first page good times.

I just tried on my 9.2 and it says "This function requires wireless communication to be enabled"

Sources say you must update to the latest FW from Nintendo before the format function will work

Requiring wireless communications don't automatically mean you require the last firmware update. For example, you can connect to your NNID profile without the last firmware update, though it require wireless communications too.

You got to connect to the internet, but it won't update as far as I know. The internet connection seems to have scared a few away from the update.

Try proceding with the update. Pretty sure you need a power source anyways for it to start, so if it does go into update mode, just force shutdown instead of updating. it should format anyways, but not update your console.

I don't even have a Gateway, I made the mistake of buying an r4i gold 3ds deluxe (knowing full well it was a clone, I just didn't quite care at the time), but it never showed up in the mail. A few weeks later, a package arrived for me. Now at this time, I was expecting an r4i gold 3ds deluxe, but when I opened the package, the only flashcart in there was MT-card. I was confused, I know I didn't order this, but turns out later on MT was doing better than r4i with the updates. So I stuck with it. Never even emailed the site. I can't even recall which site I ordered it from, I think it was 3DStown. Must've been a slight screw-up in the shipping. Since then, I have lost the DS card for it, after I accidentally formatted the MicroSD that went with it. All my saves, gone. Now I am patiently waiting for Februrary-March(ish) to order a Gateway, but I know the big release will come out before then.

Long story short; money well spent.

Just formatted it again. Did not update or even ask to update

You are correct, I turned on wifi and it said "Ready to check online to see if you can perform the system format" or something like that, then it let me proceed to the format phase. I wonder what it is checking with Nintendo's servers? Maybe a format count #?

Edit: "Are you ready to connect to the Internet to check whether data can be formatted?"

Not sure, all my connection settings were fake so mine shouldn't have been able to connect to check anything at all, Nintendo just being weird?

Nothing, it seems :

I think you just need your wireless switch set to on because I had 3 fake connections setup and it let me format

Can confirm, at least on 7.1 that you must connect to internet to format, however it doesn't prompt to update. After setup you also must accept nintendo terms to even allow updates which i haven't done (and hoping not to until emunand or something similar) Only thing which worries was I wasnt sure i could re-setup my NNID without update but someone just said it should be doable

Serious question - How big in size are 3ds updates?

Depending on size, you can just throttle your network speed from the router for a short while we have to use the code.

It won't download unless you're on sleep lol. I played some MK7 today, added a friend code, and turned off wifi when not In use. You should be fine. Make sure spot pass It's off though.

if you have router access why not just block the 3ds update server temporarily? or even just do as the "guide" shows and only turn it on when scanning the code since, when miiverse is open it won't download anything(?)

there's lots of other ways you could get around what you're trying to do, but the choice is yours ultimately.

I hope the update releases tommorrow or I think I'm going to have to join the dark side. Sky3ds

You're a free man but imo waiting a week for a future proof solution is more better than buying Sky which has absolutely no future proofing at all, unless you want a new cart lol

already ordered mine. Since I have an aus n3ds coming, I'll still be able to play pal games just fine.

There's also a lot of people saying nintendo will just patch sky3ds, but the point is that sky 3ds mirrors a 3ds cart on a hardware level pretty closely. So realistically that's like saying microsoft will just patch the ODE devices for x360, but they can't/haven't yet. It might be too much for nintendo to put into researching and not worth it for <1% and no increase/decrease in sales for blocking said device...

So I personally think sky 3ds has that advantage up on gateway, also they could possibly find a way to update the cart even if it does get blocked, maybe via the cubic ninja entry point. Who knows? I have a lot more respect for SKY3DS though in comparison to gateway.

Well good night all. I hope in the 1% chance that the update is live when I wake up lol.

I saved this page in my favorites as 'gbatemp.net/threads/gateway-3ds-working-on-the-new-nintendo-3ds.375107/page-999'.
So that i can read the newest posts in this topic.
Maybe i should alter the page number to 9999.:hateit:
