On romhacking no one was interested, so decided to ask here. Is there any fans of Infinity series, who want to see that? Planned to adapt PC script. Well, Ever17 is most famous of the 3, so decide to proceed with it first. If would be some support from community, could think for other games in series later...

Visual Novel series. https://vndb.org/v17

According to this site it is in the big 10 of greatest visual novels ever made - https://vndb.org/v/all?q=;fil=tagspoil-2;o=d;s=rating

So, well, what to say. If you like to read interactive fiction, it is worth looking.

Most likely, I should better post it on some visual novel community site, but decided to see, if anyone in PSP community really want it (as obv in VN community would be easier to play PC version).

It really is a fantastic Visual Novel, I believe it's the same writer as 999/VLR? and shares similarities within the story.
I'd love to see it translated but is there much point when the game is already available on PC? Was the Xbox 360 version ever released in English?
I'd love a Vita trilogy but that will never happen, what about an android port? I think that would do better than a PSP translation but is obviously a much larger undertaking..

Yes, same writer as for 999 and VLR.

Xbox 360 version is a pile of trash, as they remade all story, and in very bad way connected all dead ends... So remade great visual novel into novel below average... And no, it was never released in English, but I personally have no interest in this.

Android/IOS port - problem is that game in not in market anymore (as company does not exist anymore) so I cannot buy or download that. If you have it, please send me a PM. Also PSP resource format must be very similar to the ones in that port (at least I hope so).

Ever 17. It's the VN with story about a planned underwater garden/aquarium with few individuals left stranded due to some kind of incident. This one is pretty good except the repetitive scenes early on. When you enter each route, however, it becomes very interesting. Whoever likes VN should give this a try.

I have played through Ever17 on PC and it was an overall exceptional experience.

Would love to read through it again on a PSP since I am commuting 5 hours per workday.

As far as abandoning the PSP for Android -- good luck with that sentiment on the PSP homebrew board. That's like telling the 3DS homebrew scene to stop porting SNES/GBA emulators because those games are already playable on the PC.

Anyway Scorp, if you translate the PSP version just know that you'll have at least one person who will play it.

Lets say it clearly - script is very big. Even if I succeed in rom hacking, I would need someone to support me with copy-pasting script from PC version (I will provide that) to PSP version. Important part would be to check for translation in something like Google first (to ensure that this string is really the one needed, as the PSP script ordering is a bit different from the one in PC, and also could be some new string (well, who knows?)). Ia there anyone who could do this? Or it would take years to do that alone :)

I think that everyone remotely interested in VNs has already read Ever17 on a screen that's better suited for reading than PSP's one.
That said, I'd certainly want to see this PSP port hacked, mainly because it's based on a really popular VN engine available since PS2 times (notable for init.bin+*.afs files usage. I think I've even seen it on PC as well, used by Memories Off and Akai Ito* at least).

Whether you finish it or not, please try to be as transparent with the backporting process as possible (look at the nearby Legend of Heroes and La Pucelle threads, for example).

Edit:
*I've just checked and found out that it was some other multiplatform game than Akai Ito, but it's indeed used by MemOff collection on PC

Memories Off 2nd, Never7, Remember11, Ever17 and I think more of such stuff from Cyberfront use similar format (but not same! Container is same, but script format inside is different, means text opcodes).

I am actually do not port anything right now, as I told this would take enormous time for me alone to do all that. Need at least a person who could copy-paste strings in Notepad from one window to another, removing unneeded characters and checking in Google if it is correct string :) Without such person max I would do is hacking the format (if I really would be able to do that) and stop. Or if I really do not loose my spirit (that's unlikely) I could indeed copypaste whole script from PC to PSP, but, well, in this case this would be in 2020 :)

Another thing is to find IOS version for Ever17 and others, as they were removed from stores and not possible to buy them anymore. If anyone still have that, please send me a PM, as I think they have exact same format as PSP version and the data could be also transferred to them too... Think this would extend the audience, who want to see that.

And if aim for VN, which were only released for PSP - there is a problem, where get translator for them?

oooooh i would love to see ever 17 in english on the psp.. i already tried to find the text but the tool for the LGZZ or whatever it was compression won´t work on my pc/win7 :( i can´t speak japanese and i´m no hacker, but if there is a way i can help (i can translate englisch -> german or i can compare it with the pc english version and check on mistakes xD yea sorry i´m useless:P but i´m remembering now that there a some german words and phrases wrong in the game) i would do it.. if not, then you´ve got my moral support for this, it´s my favorite vn to this date (love the setting, story and characters). copy & paste sounds like a job i can do but i think that alone would be too easy (no plan about strings)

though the other infinity games and everything else where nakazawa put his hands on are also awesome.. last vn i read was i/o from him, what a mindscrew <3

i´ve just finished recently yu-no and i´m excited for the remake, i hope 5pb won´t ruin it like they did with the ever 17 remake (they have at least the ar tonelico char designer on board) :/

So, send me a PM how I can reach you somewhere to speak about details :) You would not need to care about anything, my scripts would do all automatically (at least they are supposed to do so). So you just need somethign like XML Notepad 2007 (yeah, free download at Microsoft site) or similar to replace Japanese strings with English ones... Easy, but tedious work.

Part of me wants to say I'm excited but Ever17 is already available on so many different platforms. Haven't taken the time to build/test this but there seems to be a PSP port of VNDS and there's a VNDS port of Ever17, so it's already kinda possible to play it on the PSP. Also VNDS for Android and DS so again, possible to play on Android and DS.
I checked out the PSP version for a bit and just didn't see anything new or interesting.

Now the 360 version, even though I know people hate on it, is something I'd like to experience.

Also, unrelated, found an HTML5 port of VNDS. Can anyone test this on the NEW 3DS

Last Time I checked, VNDS had bugs that prevented one from reaching the true ending, which is why I ended up playing the PC version. Also all the extras are missing from the VNDS version.

You think I do not know all this? It is the reason, why thread named as "gauging interest", not "translation started" :) And from all what I saw in this thread, I see only 1 person who want to really do something. So by me this project would never see the light of day. Actually only reason that I wanted to migrate script is because I am tired to play near PC lol and VNDS is not an option for me :) And to learn a bit of PSP programming in the same time (and I really got very helpful advices here about PSP formats :) cheers thexyz and Kelebek :))

i tried vnds some time ago on the ds and it is an interessting tool for sure, but i couldn´t really enjoy this.. it´s far from the original experience.
but i don´t know how the psp version of vnds is (never knew that this existed).
In my point of view the best option is the psp version of ever 17 (i would only miss the pc opening, i watched it everytime i opened ever 17 <3)
