I know the 9.2 exploit just came out, but what is the usual timeline for 3ds exploits to be created and released?

What's the likelihood of that being patched?

Absolutely impossible to know.

If I were in your shoes, I'd honestly look into selling your 9.4 and buying a used <9.2 3DS or even just trading. Unless you've a metric shitton of 3DS estore downloads that you can't bear to lose, you'll probably come out ahead.

Umh for Sky..well if you don't update your system zero problem I guess, obviously that will became a problem the day new games require a blocked update if they don't provide something like emunand. But for a while you will be fine.
Gateway updates over 9.2 are unknown.
If you really care to have to max choice of what to buy just sell your 3DS and buy a new one, it will be a pain now but it will be good in the long run.

Even then, you just call up Nintendo and ask for them to manually transfer. all you need is the serial no. of both 3DS consoles, and EmuNAND to connect to the internet with, and access eshop/make a NNID...

What do you mean the 9.2 exploit just came out? It doesn't say it on the website. misleading much?

It's been almost two years since Gateway allowed the public to make use of an exploit on 4.5.
Almost two years later, Smea released his 9.2 exploit to the public although it was engineered not to allow piracy.

In my opinion, Gateway analyzed and reverse engineered the same exploit or one of the several entrypoints Smea used that allows kernel access in order to release allow piracy for the end user.

2 years to have a public exploit of a new system version / firmware is a long time, but who knows, maybe in the next few years something else may come up. That is your choice in the end if you think it is worth the wait.

That's literally impossible, because Gateway announced 9.X support before smealum announced what game Ninjhax required, so the likelihood of the two using the same entry point is almost zero.

No one knows man. It took A LONG time for a software exploit, like 3 years about. Gateway was a bit faster, but it took a full year for them to find a new exploit. Sky3DS is risky AF apparently, all I see on these forums are people griping about how theirs doesn't work correctly and since it appears to be strictly hardware based if it gets blocked somehow then that is a waste of a 100 dollar flash card. I honestly just happened to have a 3DS that was still on 9.2 which is the only reason I purchased gateway. I'm not sure if its worth waiting a year with a 3DS that can't play the most recent games just for homebrew (unless you REALLY REALLY like homebrew) alternatively I think it might be worth it to wait a year with a low firmware 3DS just in case something miraculous happens with gateway or some other 3DS flash card (fingers crossed for super card dstwo+). But again... No one knows when or if a new exploit will be found so a timeline of old ones is irrelevant.

Very possible, but when they announced it, they really only said we have something in the works for the New 3DS. Could be just a marketing tactic to build up the hype.
I don't wanna open a can of worms here, but there are many possible theories which is why I said it is just my opinion. I didn't exactly say it was a fact. We can only know for sure when Gateway releases their exploit and see what entry points are being used and/or if their exploit is reverse engineered.

Good point, however just because they announced it does not mean they actually had a working exploit. The video did not appear until end of November.

i doubt they would of just announced it unless they had something fairly definite already(maybe not worth showing off i.e no menu or whatever, but im sure they would of at least had a solid proof of concept ready to build on), or they would of just announced 5.x+ support a year ago in the hopes they find something

Right, but back then they didn't have such a competitor as Sky3DS right? Also there was going to be released by Smea around the time too. The timing may be way too perfect.

Sky3DS appearing on the scene was a big game changer for Gateway. It's probably their biggest rival yet.

Anyway, I could be very wrong, so it may be best to wait until this 9.2 support comes out before concluding anything as a fact.
